Splice Machine Announces Version 2.0 of Its RDBMS
Nov 17 15
Splice Machine announced the 2.0 version of its RDBMS, the first hybrid in-memory RDBMS powered by Hadoop and Spark. Splice Machine's version 2.0 delivers a database solution that incorporates the proven scalability of Hadoop, ANSI SQL, ACID transactions, and the in-memory performance of Spark. The new, flexible hybrid database enables businesses to perform simultaneous OLAP and OLTP workloads and increase performance over traditional RDBMS, such as Oracle® & MySQL™, by 10-20X at one-fourth the cost. Splice Machine is now accepting applications to test the public beta of its version 2.0 product. Splice Machine 2.0 integrates Apache Spark, a fast, open source engine for large-scale data processing, into its existing Hadoop-based architecture. Splice Machine 2.0 has the following benefits: Transactional SQL – Supports existing OLTP applications without rewrites of existing SQL or retraining of developers. Scale-OutArchitecture – Cost-effectively scales out on commodity hardware with proven technology from Hadoop and Spark. In-MemoryTechnology – Achieves outstanding performance for OLAP queries with in-memory technology from Spark.
With the addition of Spark, Splice Machine 2.0 delivers high performance for mixed OLTP and OLAP workloads. It is ideal for a variety of use cases, including: digital marketing, ETL acceleration, operational data lakes, data warehouse offloads, IoT applications, web, mobile, and social applications, and operational applications.
Splice Machine 2.0 includes advanced resource management to ensure high-performance for simultaneous OLTP and OLAP queries. With separate processes and resource management for Hadoop and Spark, the Splice Machine RDBMS can ensure that large, complex OLAP queries do not overwhelm time-sensitive OLTP queries. Users can set custom priority levels for OLAP queries to ensure that important reports are not blocked behind a massive batch process that consumes all cluster resources.
Splice Machine Releases Version 1.5 of Hadoop RDBMS
Oct 20 15
Splice Machine announced the release of version 1.5 of its Hadoop RDBMS, adding multiple enterprise-ready features that enable businesses to confidently replace their traditional RDBMSs, such as Oracle & MySQL, with an affordable, scale-out alternative that delivers 5-10x greater performance at one fourth the cost. In working with customers and partners, the Splice Machine team identified key functionality and performance improvements that would enable companies to increase the benefits of using Splice Machine to power real-time applications, run operational data lakes or accelerate their ETL pipelines. The Hadoop RDBMS running on the enterprise-grade MapR Distribution including Hadoop gives customers a high-performance and massively scalable platform for transactional workloads on real-time data. New features included with version 1.5 of Splice Machine's Hadoop RDBMS include: SQL Compliance, Foreign Keys Enables referential integrity between tables. Triggers Provides the ability to execute procedural code based on update, insert or delete actions. BI Tool Compatibility (example Tableau, MicroStrategy). Temporary Tables Enables BI Tools to create temporary tables to perform operations on intermediate results. SQL Functions Deliver pre-built functions such as TOP N, LIMIT N, MONTHNAME, QUARTER, WEEK and NOW. Incremental Backup Provide recovery from data corruption by backing up data changed since last backup. Window Functions Provide FIRST, LAST, LEAD and LAG functions for advanced analytical queries. Performance, Enhanced Statistics Collect more granular statistics required to choose best query plan. Cost-Based Optimizer Improvements Improves ordering of table access, selection of query plans, index selection, join algorithm selection (Example, broadcast join, merge join, merge sort join, batch nested loop join). Subquery Unrolling Converts nested subqueries in joins, accelerating certain analytical queries by well over 1,000 times. The Splice Machine database is available for licensing at a per node price that includes 24/7 technical support. Version 1.5 is also now available to download and try on company website.
