UK Bank Trade Groups May Merge
Jan 16 15
HSBC Holdings plc (LSE:HSBA), Barclays Bank PLC and Lloyds Banking Group plc (LSE:LLOY) told nine trade associations in Britain to merge into a single body. Nine trade associations are Asset based Finance Association, Finance And Leasing Association, Intermediary Mortgage Lenders Association, Tax Incentivised Savings and Investment Association, Payments Council Ltd, British Bankers Association, The Uk Cards Association Ltd, Council of Mortgage Lenders, and Wealth Management Association. Banks said in a consultation paper there are too many trade groups, leading to duplication of lobbying and a lack of strategic direction. "Many trade associations acknowledge that this lack of coordination undermines the strength of UK industry representation in Brussels," the paper said. "It could help the industry rebuild trust amongst its customers," the paper added.
