Association of British Insurers Announces New Policy Directors

Association of British Insurers announced new Policy Directors, with the appointment of James Dalton as Director, General Insurance Policy and Dr. Yvonne Braun as Director, Long Term Savings Policy. They will jointly lead the ABI's Policy Directorate, created following the ABI restructure in 2013, and will ensure that the ABI is best placed to address the future challenges and opportunities facing the insurance industry. James Dalton was previously the ABI's Head of Motor and Liability. He has led ABI policy work on a range of high profile industry issues, including civil litigation reform, establishing the untraced mesothelioma compensation scheme, the CMA review of the private motor insurance market, campaigning for young driver reform, and the setting up of MedCo.

Otto Thoresen is to stand down from being director general of the Association of British Insurers (ABI) in February to become the chairman of the National Employment Savings Trust (Nest). Huw Evans will take on the role of director general at the ABI. Evans joined the ABI in 2008 and was appointed director of policy and deputy director general in October 2013.

The Association of British Insurers has confirmed the appointment of Barry O'Dwyer as the new Chairman of the Long Term Savings and Life Insurance Committee (LTSLIC). Barry O'Dwyer is Standard Life Managing Director, Adviser & Workplace. He has served on the Committee for over five years with two different firms. He will join the ABI Board in the capacity of his new role.
