ABI Appoints Alastair Ross as Head of Public Policy (Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland)

The ABI has appointed Alastair Ross to a new role as Head of Public Policy (Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) as part of its ongoing work to strengthen engagement with policymakers in the devolved nations. Alastair Ross, currently Director of Public Policy with international law firm Pinsent Masons LLP, will be based in Edinburgh and lead the ABI's growing engagement with the Scottish Parliament and the Scottish Government, the Northern Ireland Assembly and Northern Ireland Executive, and the Welsh Assembly and Welsh Government. This will include work on key devolved issues including flooding, civil justice, health and elements of welfare policy, transport, income tax and its impact on long term savings.

Association of British Insurers announced new Policy Directors, with the appointment of James Dalton as Director, General Insurance Policy and Dr. Yvonne Braun as Director, Long Term Savings Policy. They will jointly lead the ABI's Policy Directorate, created following the ABI restructure in 2013, and will ensure that the ABI is best placed to address the future challenges and opportunities facing the insurance industry. James Dalton was previously the ABI's Head of Motor and Liability. He has led ABI policy work on a range of high profile industry issues, including civil litigation reform, establishing the untraced mesothelioma compensation scheme, the CMA review of the private motor insurance market, campaigning for young driver reform, and the setting up of MedCo.
