NBC Universal Launches Radius

NBC Universal launched Radius, a digital fitness network that will allow people to work out with trainers on their smartphones or tablets. Radius promises the ability to personalize workout regimens and to tie into a consumer's wearable fitness device. It's also a subscription service of video on demand content that NBC Universal hopes will tap into the lucrative market of workout DVDs.
NBC Universal Settles with Unpaid Interns for $6.4 Million

NBC Universal will pay $6.4 million to settle a class action lawsuit brought by unpaid interns who worked on 'Saturday Night Live' and other shows who claim they are owed wages. The interns claim NBC Universal wrongly classified them as non-employees in an effort to avoid labor laws. NBC Universal reported in court documents that even though it is settling the suit, it denies the allegations and doesn't admit any wrong doing. The average amount that class-action members of the suit will receive is $505, although the main plaintiffs will receive more. The number of class members is capped at 8,975. The interns had been seeking recovery of unpaid wages, attorneys' fees, interest and liquidated damages. The settlement still has to be approved by a judge. The lawsuit was filed in federal court in New York.
NBCUniversal and Comcast Name Maggie Mclean Suniewick as Senior Vice President, Strategic Integration

NBCUniversal and Comcast announced the appointment of Comcast executive Maggie McLean Suniewick to Senior Vice President, Strategic Integration. According to the company, Suniewick will report to both Steve Burke, Chief Executive Officer, NBCUniversal and Neil Smit, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comcast Cable and Executive Vice President of Comcast Corp. Suniewick will be responsible for spearheading NBCUniversal's key Symphony initiatives across the entire company's properties and with Comcast Corp. Most recently, Suniewick served as Vice President, Programming for Comcast Cable where she managed programming across all Comcast platforms and executed the 2012 "Xfinity TV Watchathon," which offered thousands of shows to Comcast customers for free and broke all prior records on the platforms, logging double digit percentage viewership increases over the course of the week-long campaign. In her new role, Suniewick will be charged with identifying creative, technological and strategic opportunities between Comcast, a video, high-speed Internet and phone provider to residential customers and businesses under the Xfinity brand, and NBCUniversal's portfolio which includes two broadcast networks Spanish and English language 17 cable networks and more than 50 digital properties, a motion picture company, television production operations, a television stations group and theme parks.
