Koch, M.D., the Allen, Mosbacher, and Law Chair of Ophthalmology, and Professor of Ophthalmology, at Baylor College of Medicine has joined the company's Scientific Advisory Board. Koch will join the distinguished group who will guide PowerVision's team in the development of the FluidVision(TM) lens, the first fluid based accommodating intraocular lens designed to permanently restore clear vision at all distances for patients with cataracts and presbyopia, as the company works to secure its European approval, launch its pivotal study in the U.S. and prepare for a U.S. launch. The panel provides guidance on all aspects of product development, including surgical technique, design of the delivery system, clinical trial design and market positioning.
PowerVision, Inc. Announces Key Six Month Data from Fluidvision Pilot Study

PowerVision, Inc. announced that six-month data from the pilot study of the FluidVision lens confirmed the lens' ability to restore vision at all distances. Results were presented by principal investigator Professor Paul Roux of the Optimed Eye and Laser Clinic in Pretoria, South Africa at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Annual Symposium, which concludes here immediately. The FluidVision lens provides True Accommodation by mimicking the eye's natural accommodative process to change shape and adjust focus the way that young, healthy eyes do. The lens is implanted using the same surgical techniques as are used with traditional intraocular lenses. The pilot study included 20 patients who were candidates for cataract surgery and underwent implantation of the FluidVision lens in one eye. Initial results showed excellent distance vision, averaging better than 20/20 at six-month follow-up. Visual acuities at intermediate and near were also impressive at six months, approximately 20/25 and 20/33 respectively, when tested in one eye, and allowed patients to read without glasses. The visual outcomes provided by the lens should improve even more in patients when they have lenses implanted in both eyes. The study also confirmed the safety of the lens, with no clinical complications or adverse events reported. Separate studies presented at the symposium highlighted the FluidVision lens' unique delivery system, PowerJect, which allows physicians to easily prepare the lens for implantation and then implant it, and also demonstrated that the lens capsule is remarkably stable over time after implantation of the lens.
PowerVision, Inc. Announces First Patients in Multi-Center Study Implanted with FluidVision Accommodating Intraocular Lens

PowerVision, Inc. announced that the first 10 patients have received lens implants in its multi-center clinical study assessing the performance of the lens in cataract patients. These patients received their implants at the three eye centers in South Africa that are participating in the study; four sites in Germany are also participating in the study and will begin enrolling patients later in 2014. The planned enrollment in this study is 115 participants undergoing cataract surgery. This study will form the basis for PowerVision's CE marking of the FluidVision lens in the European Union, which is expected to occur sometime next year. Accommodation refers to the eye's ability to dynamically adjust focus to see up close and at a distance. The FluidVision lens, PowerVision's novel fluid-controlled accommodating intraocular lens, contains fluid inside the lens that moves in response to the natural muscle forces in the eye. The FluidVision lens provides True Accommodation(TM) by mimicking the eye's natural accommodative process, becoming thicker when the patient needs to see up close or thinner when he or she needs to see far away.
