Bharti Airtel Reportedly In Discussions To Buy Aircel's 4G Spectrum

Bharti Airtel Limited (BSE:532454) has held initial talks with Aircel Limited to buy its 4G airwaves in the 2300 Mhz band, as per three people familiar with the matter. Airtel denied of any such discussions and Aircel said it doesn't comment on market speculation. Some discussions have happened between very senior management of both the companies," one of the people told Economic Times. "But lots of things need to be sorted out like the valuations, but importantly, the deal may fall foul of the spectrum cap rules in two circles — Odisha and Andhra Pradesh." A second person said the thought process within Airtel is to "beef up as much spectrum as it can through spectrum trading and auctions". He noted that after buying Qualcomm's 4G airwaves in four circles, Airtel recently bought Augere Wireless, which owned 4G airwaves in Chhattisgarh-Madhya Pradesh circle.
Aircel to Open 1,000 Xpress Stores Across India by First Quarter of 2016

Aircel is expanding its retail footprint across the country and targets more than 1,000 'Aircel Xpress Stores' by the first quarter of 2016. Aircel reports it ended March 2015 with 500 Xpress Stores, opening one store every day. The operator expects to expand its retail chain to more than 2,000 stores by end-2017. Most of the Aircel Xpress Stores will be opened in circles such as Delhi, Mumbai, Rajasthan, North East & Assam and J&K.
Promoters And Investors Seek To Sell Aircel

According to sources, multiple investors have envisaged interest in buying stake in Aircel Limited. The prospective investors include Idea Cellular Ltd. (BSE:532822), Telenor ASA (OB:TEL), AT&T, Inc. (NYSE:T) and MTN Group Limited (JSE:MTN). The promoters and investors of Aircel, including Maxis Communications Berhad, are looking to exit Aircel and have invited request for quotations for stake sale, sources told CNBC-TV18. Idea Cellular and Telenor have already initiated the due diligence process, sources said. Aircel promoters have set a June 2014 deadline for quotation. Though valuation figures are still being worked on, sources said it could be a significantly large deal in the range of over INR 200 billion. Idea and AT&T refused a comment. Others players were unavailable.
