Mars, Incorporated announced the opening of its Global Food Safety Center, a facility for pre-competitive research and training that aims to raise global food safety standards through collaboration. Convening governments, academics, regulators and industry peers, the Mars Global Food Safety Center is intended to drive global focus on addressing the challenge of food safety, leading to better access, availability and nutrition, as well as reduced food waste and an increase in overall quality of life. Building on decades of research, the Mars Global Food Safety Center is a $15 million investment in Mars ongoing commitment to working with experts to ensure the safety and security of food for generations of families. With an emphasis on pre-competitive research and collaborative solutions, the Mars Global Food Safety Center will leverage insights and expertise from over 60 Mars partnerships dedicated to innovative, sustainable and responsible food safety practices.

Mars Inc. to Build New Candy-Making Plant in Kansas

Mars Inc. announced plans to build a new, $100 million candy-making facility in Kansas near where its first new plant in 35 years began churning out sweets last year 2014. The deal, which the company disclosed in advance of a Topeka economic development meeting, comes a little more than a year after the New Jersey-based company opened a $270 million plant south of the city. Work on the new 90,000-square-foot facility will start. After constructions wraps up in late 2016, the company will add 70 full-time employees to the 200 already working in the Topeka area. The company has not determined exactly which candies it will make at the new plant. The facility is receiving state and local economic incentives, although Mars didn't immediately disclose the amount of the incentives. The existing plant makes Snickers and M&M's. Mars also makes Milky Way, Twix and 3 Musketeers candy bars.

Mars, Incorporated Opens New Pet Food Factory in Bathurst, Australia

Mars, Incorporated has opened an AUD 100 million pet food factory in Bathurst, Australia. It will manufacture dry pet food from Mars Petcare brands PEDIGREE, WHISKAS, ADVANCE, MY DOG, OPTIMUM and DINE for millions of much-loved pets all over Australia. This investment reflects the Mars commitment towards building its global business and follows recent factory openings such as the AUD 63 million Wrigley factory in Kenya. The investment of AUD 100 million in the facility is a significant contribution to the local area; it will directly employ approximately 150 local Associates, making it one of the large investments ever made in the Bathurst community.
