National Geographic Bolsters Travel Business; Announces Executive Appointments

National Geographic Travel is ramping up with additional global expansion plans for Europe and Asia and new travel-related media offerings. The company said the expansion includes the launch of a weekly two-hour travel programming block, the appointment of new executives, a special luxury edition of National Geographic Traveler magazine, and the development of the new National Geographic Travel Lab. National Geographic Travel noted its international growth and development continues with the appointment of Nathan Philpot. Philpot, who has extensive experience in the travel industry, has been named Director, National Geographic Expeditions Europe & Africa and is charged in part with developing and launching the branded consumer travel experiences across Europe and Africa. Additionally, Andrew Nelson has been tapped to lead a newly formed NG Travel Lab, which will serve as a one-stop shop for custom content creation, distribution and marketing. The team will provide creative client solutions across multiple platforms, from ideation to execution, spanning digital, social, video and print platforms while working with regional labs in Latin America, Europe and Asia.

The National Geographic Society Appoints Emma Carrasco as Chief Marketing and Communications Officer and Senior Vice President of Global Strategy

The National Geographic Society announced that Emma Carrasco will take on the newly created position of chief marketing and communications officer and senior vice president of global strategy. Carrasco, who joins National Geographic Society after four years at NPR, will play a crucial role in reaching key constituencies and effectively communicating the Society’s mission and impact on the world. She will serve on the senior leadership team, reporting to President and CEO Gary Knell. Carrasco brings more than 30 years of experience in marketing, branding and communications to the role, including work guiding the strategy for international brands.

The National Geographic Society Announces Brooke Runnette as Executive Vice President, Chief Program and Impact Officer

The National Geographic Society announced the promotion of Brooke Runnette to the newly created position of Executive Vice President, Chief Program and Impact Officer. Runnette will play an instrumental role in helping the Society make a greater global impact through its mission-driven work. Before joining National Geographic, Runnette served for six years on the creative team at Discovery Channel as an executive producer and director of development for special projects. She oversaw cable's longest-running event, Shark Week, putting a greater emphasis on natural history while simultaneously increasing ratings.
