The National Geographic Society announced that Emma Carrasco will take on the newly created position of chief marketing and communications officer and senior vice president of global strategy. Carrasco, who joins National Geographic Society after four years at NPR, will play a crucial role in reaching key constituencies and effectively communicating the Society’s mission and impact on the world. The National Geographic Society Announces Brooke Runnette as Executive Vice President, Chief Program and Impact Officer

The National Geographic Society announced the promotion of Brooke Runnette to the newly created position of Executive Vice President, Chief Program and Impact Officer. Runnette will play an instrumental role in helping the Society make a greater global impact through its mission-driven work. Before joining National Geographic, Runnette served for six years on the creative team at Discovery Channel as an executive producer and director of development for special projects. She oversaw cable's longest-running event, Shark Week, putting a greater emphasis on natural history while simultaneously increasing ratings.

National Geographic Society Announces Management Appointments

National Geographic Society announced that philanthropist, investor and Internet pioneer Jean Case, chief executive officer of the Case Foundation, has been elected chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Geographic Society. Tracy Wolstencroft, CEO of Heidrick & Struggles, was elected vice chairman. Case has been involved with National Geographic for more than a decade and joined the Board of Trustees in 2010. Her leadership on the board has included chairing the Nominating and Governance Committee and co-chairing the Search Committee that tapped Gary Knell as the Society’s CEO in 2013. Wolstencroft has been a member of the board since 2008, serving as chair of the Finance and Investment Committee and is a member of the National Geographic International Council of Advisors. He is president and CEO of the global executive search firm Heidrick & Struggles. Previously, he was a longstanding partner at Goldman Sachs, where, over the course of a 25-year career, he led a wide range of businesses in the United States, Asia and Latin America.
