L.L. Bean Inc. Plans to Open its First Cincinnati Retail Store at the Kenwood Collection

L.L. Bean Inc. announced that it plans to open its first Cincinnati retail store at the Kenwood Collection. L.L. Bean's Cincinnati store will be its third in Ohio following stores in Cleveland and Columbus. L.L. Bean will have its grand opening for its second Ohio store on Nov. 20. The store is in Columbus at Easton Town Center. It has 22 retail stores outside of Maine, plus 10 outlets in locations throughout New England and the Mid-Atlantic region of the U.S.

L.L.Bean Inc. is going outside the company for the first time for its new CEO, tapping the chief merchandising and marketing officer of a Chinese e-commerce business. L.L. Bean agreed to hire Stephen Smith from Yihaodian. Smith will take over his duties in January, replacing Chris McCormick, who has served as CEO for 14 years. Smith began his career in New York but moved to Maine in the late 1990's when he joined Resort Sports Network (RSN) where he rose to Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Later, he moved to Hannaford Supermarkets as Director of Marketing. Since then, he has held several executive level roles at both U.S. and internationally based retailers, including Sweetbay Supermarkets and Delhaize Le Lion (sister companies of Hannaford) in Florida and Belgium, and Walmart International subsidiaries, including Sam's Club in China, ASDA in the United Kingdom, and Yihaodian, a pure e-commerce business located in Shanghai.
