Herbert Smith Freehills' deputy senior partner Mark Crean, who lost leadership elections to James Palmer last year, has left the firm to join Jones Day in Australia. Palmer won the elections to succeed former senior partner Jonathan Scott in a three-year tenure (10 November 2014). The election was sparked by the early resignation of Scott, who stepped down three months early and will retire in January (3 November 2014). Crean had been chairman of legacy Freehills for over a year before the merger, and later filled the role of deputy senior partner at the merged firm for over two years.
