Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP announced that Denis J. McInerney, former Chief of the Fraud Section and Deputy Assistant Attorney General of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, is returning to the firm as a partner in its Litigation Department and member of its white collar criminal defense and investigations practice. As Chief of the Fraud Section (from 2010 to 2013) and then Deputy Assistant Attorney General overseeing the Fraud, Appellate and Capital Case Sections of the Criminal Division (from 2013 to 2014), Mr. McInerney was responsible for supervising approximately 100 prosecutors in the Fraud Section, which has responsibility for all Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) investigations conducted by DOJ, as well as a wide range of other complex white collar criminal investigations and prosecutions throughout the country, including corporate, securities, financial, health care and procurement fraud cases.

Davis Polk has announced that eight lawyers have been promoted to counsel effective June 1, 2014: Margie Chan, Peter Cheng, James Elworth, Hilary Seo, Michael Steinberg, Alex Tao and Derek Walters in the Corporate Department, and Kelly Dunn in the Trusts and Estates Department. Ms. Chan is counsel in the Corporate Department, resident in Hong Kong. Her practice focuses on a wide range of New York and Hong Kong debt capital market and credit transactions. Mr. Cheng is counsel in Davis Polk’s Corporate Department, resident in Hong Kong. His practice focuses on equity capital market transactions, initial public offerings in Hong Kong, compliance with Hong Kong’s Listing Rules, mergers and acquisitions and private equity investments. Mr. Elworth is counsel in the Corporate Department, practicing in the Mergers and Acquisitions Group in New York. He has represented a wide range of corporate, banking, private equity and hedge fund clients in both public and private company M&A transactions, as well as joint ventures, spinouts and other strategic transactions. Ms. Seo is counsel in Davis Polk’s Financial Institutions Group and the Trading and Markets practice in New York. She advises on securities and derivatives regulatory, compliance and transactional matters, with a particular focus on swaps regulation under Title VII of the Dodd-Frank Act, the Volcker Rule and broker-dealer regulation. Mr. Steinberg is counsel in the Corporate Department, practicing in the Capital Markets Group in New York. He advises financial institutions on all aspects of the development, issuance and marketing of SEC-registered and exempt offerings of structured securities linked to equities, commodities, currencies, interest rates and combinations of these assets. Mr. Tao is counsel in the Corporate Department, resident in Hong Kong. His practice covers a wide range of international capital markets transactions, including initial public offerings, high-yield and investment-grade debt offerings, as well as liability management transactions. Mr. Walters is counsel in the Corporate Department, practicing in the Derivatives and Structured Products Group in New York. He regularly advises a broad range of clients on a wide array of financial instruments and transactions, including structured products offered to retail and institutional investors, margin loans secured by significant stakes in public companies, convertible bonds linked to public equity and other derivative instruments. Ms. Dunn is counsel in Davis Polk’s Trusts and Estates Department in New York.
