Ascension Reports Earnings Results for the Second Quarter of Fiscal 2015

Ascension got back in the black in the second quarter of fiscal 2015, posting a profit of $115 million after a loss of $87 million in the first quarter. The positive showing comes on the heels of a roller coaster ride for the nonprofit's investments over the last 18 months. The company lost $108 million on investments in the second quarter of 2015. That compares with a $209 million loss on investments in the first quarter. In the first quarter of fiscal 2014, the company posted $365 million in investment profits, helping boost the bottom line to $430 million for the period. In the second quarter of 2014, investment returns swept even higher, with a $454 million return for that period bringing profit up over $1 billion by mid-year.
Ascension Health and Envision Healthcare Holdings, Inc. Form Joint Venture

Ascension Health, a direct subsidiary of Ascension, entered into an agreement with Evolution Health, a division of Envision Healthcare (Envision), to form a joint venture to provide an array of post-acute services including home care, hospice care and infusion therapy to individuals in communities served by Ascension's Health Ministries. This arrangement advances Ascension's commitment to providing person-centered care across the continuum of care, while strengthening its ability to serve all persons with special attention to those who are poor and vulnerable. Under the arrangement, Ascension has selected Evolution Health as its exclusive partner in the provision of these services to patients in their homes and other facilities. The new joint venture will initially include five of Ascension Health's 23 communities, with the first phase of the agreement beginning at the end of 2014. Revenues in the first year of operation are estimated to be $75 million - $100 million and expansion into additional communities is planned in a phased implementation over the next three years.
