Ascension has announced the appointment of Bernie Sherry as Senior Vice President of Ascension Health/Wisconsin Ministry Market Executive, effective April 4, 2016. Currently, Sherry serves as Chief Operating Officer for Ascension’s Saint Thomas Health in Nashville, Tennessee. Sherry will replace Vince Caponi, who has served as interim Wisconsin Ministry Market Executive since January 1 and was instrumental in finalizing plans for the Southeast Wisconsin operations of Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare to join Ascension Wisconsin on March 1.

Ascension Health, Inc. reported earnings results for the six months ended December 31, 2015. The company reported a net loss of $373 million for the six months ending Dec. 31, as compared with a gain of $17 million in 2014, due in large part to losses from its investment portfolio. Total operating revenue for the six months of $10.7 billion, up 3.3% from the $10.3 billion reported for the prior-year period. In the second quarter the company saw volume increases in admissions, surgeries, and certain outpatient visits. These increases were partly due to acquisition of new hospitals in Tennessee and Michigan, as well as expanded health insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act.
