Amway Corporation Key Developments

Amway Opens New Nutrition Manufacturing and R&D Facility in California

Amway announced the opening of its new $42 million nutrition manufacturing and R&D facility in Buena Park, California, USA. The 60,000-square-foot manufacturing facility will house select manufacturing operations for the company's Nutrilite brand of vitamins, minerals and dietary supplements, sold exclusively by Amway Business Owners. The R&D facility will focus on quality assurance activities as well as research efforts for the nutrition brand. A new office building also is part of the development. The new manufacturing facility supports ingredient granulation the mid-step in the manufacturing process of vitamin and mineral tablets, including Nutrilite Double X and Nutrilite supplements. The facility will take raw ingredients from Nutrilite farms, received in a powdered form, and turn them into a consistency that can be pressed into tablets. The manufacturing facility is built to meet LEED (leadership in energy & environmental design) silver certification standards developed by the U.S. Green Building Council – upholding a long-term environmental focus by Amway. The building design and construction used sustainability practices, a storm water control system, and paint and other coatings containing low volatile organic compounds to reduce potentially harmful gases. The Buena Park-based facility is one of five new manufacturing sites slated to open in 2015 for Amway, part of its ongoing $332 million manufacturing expansion.

Amway to Open Three New Stores in Mexico in 2015

Amway plans to expand its presence in Mexico and to open three new stores in Sonora, Guerrero and Puebla, in which it will invest USD 300,000 (EUR 277,000). Amway's plan is to cover all major cities in Mexico, which it sees as one of the most important markets in Latin America, Jose Paez, head of Amway Mexico. Amway has doubled its presence in Mexico in the past three years. Currently, the company has 16 stores in Nuevo Leon, Jalisco, Mexico City, Tijuana, Chihuahua, and Leon, among others. Amway also has a distribution centre in Apodaca, Nuevo Leon, and has earmarked USD 200,000 for its modernisation and expansion.

Amway Reports Sales Results for the Year Ended December 31, 2014

Amway reported sales results for the year ended December 31, 2014. The company announced sales of $10.8 billion for the year ended December 31, 2014. The result represents a decline of eight percent from 2013, due to lower revenues in China and fluctuation in foreign currency exchange rates. While 2014 revenues are lower than 2013, the company continues to exhibit strong longterm growth.
