Conexant Systems Inc. has introduced the AudioSmart CX20926, its new low-power, audio/sensor system-on-chip, or SoC, which is designed to allow voice control in battery-powered devices. Designed with an integrated ARM Cortex-M0+ 32-bit microprocessor, the new lowpower, energy-efficient CX20926 features direct sensor interfaces and Conexant's, high-performance, dual-core 32-bit audio DSP. Optimized for a wide range of voiceenabled, battery-powered applications that include smart voice remote controls, wearables and headsets, the CX20926 enables reduced footprint and lower BOM costs. With consumers relying on battery-powered devices for so many of their everyday tasks, battery drain is a real concern. The use of voice as a means of control requires that these devices are constantly listening for commands and waking up quickly to answer. All of this can put a serious strain on batteries, making reduced power consumption a necessity. With the CX20926, devices are always listening for a wake-up voice command - while the rest of the device is powered off. The CX20926 executes this in an ultra low-power state, saving battery resources. In addition to unparalleled low-power voice wake-up capabilities, Conexant has leveraged its unique Smart Source Pickup (SSP) noise suppression algorithm to make the CX20926 even more powerful. Conexant's SSP makes it possible to cut through noise such as playback from the device's speaker and environmental noise, and allows users to be at any angle relative to the product's microphones and still receive clear voice communication and commands. Further, with an ARM M0+ sensor processor, and a direct interface to sensors, the CX20926 is an optimized audio/sensor hub that can combine contextual information from motion sensors with audio information from microphones to provide a compelling audio and voice experience The features of CX20926 includes ARM Cortex-M0+ microprocessor, up to 50MHz operation; Conexant's dual-core, 32-bit hardware fixed point DSP, up to 100MHz operation; two stereo PDM digital microphone interfaces; and, I2C sensor interfaces. The AudioSmart CX20926 is available in a 50-QFN package. EVKs will be available to qualified customers and partners in first quarter 2016, with budgetary pricing beginning at $3.49 in 10K quantities.

Conexant Systems Inc. has announced a new RoomAware Optimizer processing solution that delivers an improved listening experience from the existing speakers in a TV. Part of the Conexant AudioSmart product family, the new solution has been adopted by LG Electronics for its 2016 lineup of OLED and UHD TVs. LG will call the feature 'Magic Sound Tuning.' When it comes to TV, the vast majority of consumers use the built-in speakers that come with their TVs. Without professional assistance, most consumers are not aware that TV audio can sound better. Through Magic Sound Tuning, LG TVs, with their Magic Remote, can automatically adapt speaker output to the room's acoustics and the location of the TV in the room. This ability to intelligently adapt enables LG to provide a unique, customized audio experience without any specialized knowledge or additional effort by the end user. RoomAware Optimizer is part of Conexant's Contextual Awareness product portfolio. Conexant has leveraged its AudioSmart input and playback processing algorithms to create a suite of technologies that sense the context of the product and its surroundings to automatically optimize the end user experience. Magic Sound Tuning is a proprietary application that listens to a room and intelligently adapts the output from a TV's speakers. The RoomAware Optimizer automatically adapts playback processing to the room environment and TV location within the room. Playback sound can be tailored to the TV manufacturer's choice, enabling a signature sound. Key features also include little to no setup required by end consumer and no additional hardware cost other than the microphone already built into the Magic Remote.

Conexant Systems Inc. has launched CX20924, a high-performance four-microphone far-field voice input digital signal processor, or DSP, for smart voice applications. Featuring Conexant's new Smart Source Locator (SSL), the CX20924 brings superior, 360-degree voice location capabilities combined with excellent speech recognition hit rates to smart voice applications - even in far-field conditions of up to five meters away from the target device. With Conexant's SSL, which is part of the company's innovative AudioSmart voice and speech processing software, a user's location can be detected from any angle around the device. This 360-degree functionality is enabled by support of 4 microphone voice processing. This contributes to a greatly enhanced user experience and lays the foundation for even better speech recognition performance including the ability to isolate the target voice from among competing voices and sounds in the room. For example, with Conexant technology inside, smart personal assistants or robots can filter out background noise and automatically turn to face the user that is speaking no matter where the voice is coming from in the room. As part of Conexant's Contextual Awareness product portfolio, SSL also gives end applications the ability to listen to the surrounding environment and intelligently adapt. Conexant has leveraged its AudioSmart input and playback processing algorithms to create a suite of technologies that sense the context of the product and its surroundings to automatically optimize the end-user experience. The new chip is part of Conexant's AudioSmart solutions and offers a highly accurate, robust way to control smart speakers, robots, security monitoring cameras, and more. With a low-power, small footprint speech recognition engine running within the chip, the CX20924 can always be listening for a wake-up voice command while the rest of the device is powered off. The CX20924 executes this 'always-listening' mode in an ultra low-power state. The ability to do this, combined with echo cancellation that allows users to talk to the device from anywhere in the room, within five meters, is what differentiates Conexant's approach.
