Christie’s announced sales results for the year ended December 2014. The company announced results with art sales of £5.1 billion, up 12% ($8.4 billion, up 17%), for the year ended December 2014. This figure is the high total for Christie’s or any art company in the history of the market. Sales figures were driven by an increase in activity across all geographies and strong sales of works of the high quality, particularly in the Post-War & Contemporary Art, Impressionist & Modern Art and Jewellery departments. All sales platforms increased during 2014 with Auction sales up 10% to £4.2 billion ($6.8 billion, up 15%), Private Sales totaling £916.1 million up 20% ($1.5 billion, up 26%) and eCommerce sales realizing £21.4 million, up 54% ($35.1 million, up 60%).

Christie's announced the appointment of Derek Gillman to the new role of Chairman, Impressionist & Modern Art, SVP, The Americas. The former
Executive Director and President of the Barnes Foundation began on January 5, 2015. Mr. Gillman is based in New York and will work very closely with Giovanna Bertazzoni, International Head of Impressionist & Modern Art and Brooke Lampley, International Director, Impressionist & Modern Art, and their team of specialists. Tapping his deep experience and wide network of relationships, Gillman will nurture client relationships and support business strategy around the world for the department. In this role, Gillman will report directly to Marc Porter, Chairman, Christie's Americas.
