Active Broadband Networks Inc. Key Developments

Active Broadband Networks to Demonstrate Telemetry-Driven Service Intelligence and Big Data Analytics at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2014

Active Broadband Networks announced that it will demonstrate telemetry-driven service intelligence and Big Data analytics at the upcoming SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2014. The company will be demonstrating its Active Resource Manager software, which incorporates support for IP flow telemetry data collection, Big Data storage and powerful business intelligence tools. The ARM implements both the IP Flow Export (IPFIX) and NetFlow protocols for collecting IP flow telemetry and provides enhanced visibility into service and application utilization without requiring the deployment of additional network probes or Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) elements. The ARM also features a high-performance Big Data storage architecture that scales to support millions of customer devices in a linear, pay-as-you-grow fashion. The demonstration will showcase the Big Data capabilities of the ARM using Pentaho Big Data Analytics, which is integrated and delivered with the software. This suite of powerful, intuitive business intelligence tools simplifies Big Data reporting and analytics, allowing operators to translate network telemetry into actionable business insights. Pentaho makes it easy for operators to create: Dashboards for graphical, at-a-glance information, Interactive reports, with easy-to-use drag-and-drop tools for user-created reports and Visualizations, for displaying information in order to gain insight into business or operational trends.

Active Broadband Networks Introduces First SDN Controller for Real-Time, Telemetry-Driven Service Intelligence at the Broadband Edge

Active Broadband Networks announced the availability of the Active Resource Controller (ARC), a subscriber, service and application aware, telemetry-driven SDN controller for the broadband service edge. Based on Active Broadband's field-proven Active Resource Manager platform, the ARC incorporates SDN protocols for dynamic control of Network Function Virtualization (NFV) infrastructure, IP flow telemetry data for visibility into network, service, subscriber and application usage, and Big Data technology for managing the vast amounts of data required for service personalization. Active Broadband delivers the ARC with a powerful set of business intelligence tools that allow operators to perform Big Data analytics in order to gain critical business insights for network operations, engineering, and service planning. These tools make it easy to design graphical dashboards, generate interactive reports and create visualizations that allow operators to closely monitor network operations, better understand subscriber behavior, and track service and application usage trends. The ARC is also bundled with a tool that provides a familiar interface for performing low-latency SQL queries on noSQL Big Data databases.

Active Broadband Networks to Demonstrate Software-Defined Networking Solution for Integrated Broadband Access and Subscriber Service Control

Active Broadband Networks announced that it will demonstrate at the upcoming Open Networking Summit 2014 a software-defined networking (SDN) solution for integrated broadband access and subscriber service control. The demo will feature Active Broadband's Active Resource Manager (ARM), an SDN controller for subscriber-aware broadband service activation and control, and a new, Intel-based hardware platform for dynamically controlling subscriber traffic flows called a Programmable Broadband Gateway (PBG). The ARM broadband access controller software collects network telemetry and subscriber service data from the PBG using the IPFIX protocol, which employs a highly efficient streaming mechanism, and is used to collect IP flow statistics and other types of information from network elements. This data is processed in real-time to monitor network conditions and subscriber traffic flows for a range of service management applications. The ARM performs broadband service activation and control by directly programming forwarding table entries in the PBG using the OpenFlow protocol (version 1.3). The high-performance ARM controller software runs on standard Linux-based servers, including virtual machine environments, and is highly scalable, having been successfully deployed in networks supporting millions of subscribers.
