St. Elizabeth Healthcare Key Developments

St. Elizabeth Healthcare Announces Executive Changes

Garren Colvin was named CEO of St. Elizabeth Healthcare. Colvin, 50, a Villa Hills resident who has been interim chief executive officer since the unexpected retirement of John Dubis in February, has worked for St. E for 32 years. He will oversee an annual budget of about $1 billion and more than 7,300 employees, including about 330 doctors and 70 mid-level providers such as physician assistants and nurse practitioners. Colvin joined St. Elizabeth in May 1983 as a co-op student while attending Thomas More College. He served as vice president of finance and subsequently chief financial officer and chief operating officer before becoming interim CEO. Dubis stepped down after revealed to managers that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson's, a disorder of the nervous system. He said the progressive disease was in the early stages, but he insisted on retiring out of concern that his illness might have a negative effect on the leadership of the organization. Dubis had led St. Elizabeth since 2011.

St. Elizabeth Healthcare Announces Executive Changes

St. Elizabeth Healthcare has hired Bruno Giacomuzzi as chief operating officer of its Fort Thomas hospital who also oversees daily operations of St. E's ambulatory center in Covington, which has a 24/7 emergency room, and a Falmouth drug and alcohol treatment center. Giacomuzzi replaced Tom Saalfeld, who retired in December after 40 years with St. Elizabeth. Giacomuzzi previously was regional strategy and growth officer for the northwest Chicago region of Presence Health.

St. Elizabeth Healthcare Announces Board Changes

St. Elizabeth Healthcare announced that James Vortruba succeeds Ted Robinson as chairman of the St. E board of trustees. Joining the board are Debbie Simpson; Tillie Hidalgo Lima, and Robert Zapp. Robinson is the co-founder and managing partner of River Cities Capital Funds. He stepped down from the St. E board after 10 years. Vortruba has been on the board since 2012. Vortruba previously chaired Vision 2015, which developed a comprehensive strategic plan for Northern Kentucky.
