Parents of JJ's Explosion Victim File Lawsuit Against Time Warner Cable Midwest, USIC Locating Services, Inc., Southern Union Company, Missouri Gas Energy, Inc. and Heartland Midwest, L.L.C

The parents of Megan Cramer, a hostess killed in the February 2013 explosion of JJ's restaurant, have filed a wrongful death suit against six defendants that include five companies and one individual. The suit, filed on May 31, 2013 in Jackson County, names as defendants Missouri Gas Energy, Time Warner Cable Midwest, USIC Locating Services, Inc., Southern Union Company, Heartland Midwest, LLC., and a Heartland employee. Megan Cramer died on Feb. 19, 2013 in a fiery gas explosion that flattened the popular restaurant at 910 W. 48th St. and sent a plume of black smoke rising hundreds of feet into the air on the west side of the Country Club Plaza. A drilling project was taking place outside the restaurant when a gas line was severed. Megan Cramer's body was recovered on the day after the explosion. Her parents are being represented in their suit by Steven Dunn Harrell of Strong & Associates, of Springfield, Mo. Spokesmen for the defendants could not immediately be reached for comment. Several other lawsuits have been filed since the explosion.
