Modo Labs released version 1.8 of the open source Kurogo Mobile Optimized MiddlewarePlatform. The new version includes multiple upgrades that raise the bar in the rapid assembly and deployment of content-rich mobile websites. More than 30% of the North American universities already use Kurogo to implement mobile campus applications, including Princeton, Dartmouth, New York University, the University of British Columbia and many more. Kurogo 1.8 was announced on April 2, 2013 at the first-annual Kurogo HigherEd User Conference, hosted at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. At the event, Modo Labs also announced Mobile Campus 2.1. Based on the Kurogo platform, Mobile Campus is a commercial offering that implements iOS and Android native apps as well as a number of powerful commercial modules that tightly integrate with widely used Learning Management, Student Information and Transit systems. Kurogo 1.8 emphasizes extensibility, clean integration and exceptional user experience. The open source release contains the following new improvements: improved site management and setup; simplified theming of UI elements; enhanced support for new tablets; support for role-based content; desktop portal; new data connector options, including authenticated connections and upgraded RSS parser; and many improvements in bundled modules. Kurogo provides both universities and enterprises a complete platform and solution to rapidly assemble, deploy and maintain mobile websites.
