Weil Gotshal & Manges Announces Executive Changes

Weil Gotshal & Manges has hired corporate partner Charles Ching from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, following the departure of China head Steven Xiang. Ching joins Weil from Freshfields's Hong Kong office but will be based in the US firm's Shanghai office. Ching was promoted to partner three years ago in Freshfields (28 March 2012), where he joined in 2010 as a counsel from Cravath Swaine & Moore in New York. Ching's appointment follows the resignation of Weil's long-serving China practice head Steven Xiang. Xiang joined the firm in 2004 from Clifford Chance to help launch and lead its Shanghai office (15 July 2004).

Xueda Education Group ("company") announced that the committee of independent directors of the company's Board of Directors has retained Lazard Asia (Hong Kong) Limited as its independent financial advisor and Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP as its independent U.S. legal counsel to assist with the Independent Committee's review and evaluation of the preliminary non-binding proposal letter dated April 20, 2015 from Insight Investment Co. Ltd. to acquire all of the company's outstanding shares. The company has retained Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP to act as the Company's U.S. counsel.
