Lastline, Inc. Key Developments

Lastline Unveils Kernel Malware Analysis

Lastline announced that it has unveiled a new analysis capability that provides unprecedented insights into a pernicious type of malware hidden in the kernel of Microsoft Windows operating systems. The behavior and actions of kernel-based malware is invisible to most traditional emulation and virtualized sandboxes. As part of its latest update to its software-based Breach Detection Platform, the company adds the industry’s first capability for automated and deep analysis of kernel behavior and rootkit detection. This deep kernel-based malware analysis capability adds to existing network-based detection of kernel components in the platform. New company labs analysis highlighted in a SXSW Interactive presentation on advanced and evasive malware indicates that many recently-discovered, sophisticated attacks against Windows users including Equation, Regin, Dark Hotel and Turla/Uroburos use at least one component executing in the kernel of the operating system. The company's software-based, full-system emulation sandboxing defeats advanced persistent threats, including those driven by evasive malware that are crafted to bypass the traditional sandboxes deployed by first-generation APT security appliance vendors. The new rootkit detection capabilities in the 6.5 release of the platform offer deep analysis of kernel-based malware that is not visible to other sandboxes, including FireEye malware analysis technology. The Lastline Breach Detection Platform offers advanced malware protection for email, file, Web content and mobile applications. Lastline 6.5 is priced per user per year and includes the ability to deploy an unlimited number of network locations and inspect any number of protocols.

Lastline Partners with Bit9 + Carbon Black to Deliver Comprehensive Network and Endpoint Breach Protection

Lastline announced a partnership and technology integration with Bit9 + Carbon Black. The integration delivers automated and comprehensive end-to-end endpoint and network security for email, web, files and mobile applications. Lastline also has joined the Bit9 + Carbon Black Connect Alliance Partner Program. A complete advanced anti-malware strategy must consider extending the traditional endpoint and Web/email protections with network malware protection systems (MPSs) and the latest technologies in endpoint protection, in addition to malware incident response. With faster and more comprehensive visibility into indicators of compromise and malware behaviors on endpoints such as laptops or desktops, IT security professionals are far better equipped to identify and respond to advanced threats with Lastline and Bit9 + Carbon Black in place. The software-based Lastline Breach Detection Platform allows integration partners to tap into advanced malware protection for email, file, Web content and mobile applications. Lastline's full-system emulation sandbox detects advanced threats including evasive malware that is crafted to bypass traditional sandboxes. It is well understood that attacks and compromise are the new normal, and legacy security systems do not solve the problem of todayâ s advanced threats.

Dell SecureWorks Combines its Threat Intelligence With Lastline Breach Detection Platform to Launch Advanced Malware Protection and Detection Service

Lastline announced that Dell SecureWorks is combining its renowned Threat Intelligence with the Lastline Breach Detection Platform to bring to market its Advanced Malware Protection and Detection (AMPD) service. AMPD is a fully managed security service designed to rapidly detect advanced threat actor activity on networks. The AMPD service continuously monitors and inspects email, file and Web traffic on an organization’s network using Dell SecureWorks’ purpose-built appliances and advanced analysis engines powered by Lastline. Alerts and suspicious behaviors are reviewed by a specialized Advanced Analyst team within Dell SecureWorks. This team, armed with additional intelligence from Dell SecureWorks’ highly respected Counter Threat Unit research team, is able to quickly diagnose threats and provide focused guidance on their removal. The software-based Lastline Breach Detection Platform supports managed security services with advanced malware protection for email, file, Web content and mobile applications. Lastline’s full-system emulation defeats advanced persistent threats (APTs), including those driven by evasive malware that are crafted to bypass the traditional sandboxes deployed by first-generation APT security vendors.
