For the period, coal sales grew by 12% to 27 million tonnes. Sales in Russia rose 20% to 15.9 million tonnes, of which 12.7 million tonnes was sold to the power industry to meet demand for coal-fired power plants at a time when hydro-power plants had to generate less electricity due to low water levels in rivers.
