The International Institute for Strategic Studies Appoints John Jenkins as Executive Director, with Effective from January 27, 2015

The International Institute for Strategic Studies announced the appointment of Sir John Jenkins as Executive Director of the IISS–Middle East, based in Manama, Bahrain, as of 27 January 2015. Sir John serves at present as the UK ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and has previously been UK ambassador to Iraq, to Syria and to Libya. He has also served in Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, as Consul-General in Jerusalem and in a number of other postings including as ambassador to Burma. He holds a BA and a doctorate (PhD) from Cambridge University and so brings to this position both first-class academic credentials and unrivalled practical understanding of the current geopolitical and geo-economic trends in the region.
