Plexxi Appoints Clark Masters to Board of Directors

Plexxi Inc. announced that Clark Masters, has been appointed to its Board of Directors. As Senior Vice President of HANA Cloud Computing at SAP, Masters reports to the CTO and is responsible for strategy and advanced architectures relating to in-memory database operation in public and private clouds. Masters will fill the board seat vacated when Rich Napolitano took over as Plexxi's CEO in November of 2014. With more than 30 years of technology and industry leadership with organizations such as SAP, Sun Microsystems and Cray Research, Masters brings to Plexxi's board a wealth of high-technology vision, knowledge and execution. He joins Napolitano; David Husak, Plexxi Founder, CTO and EVP of Products & Technology; Chris Schaepe, Managing Director, Lightspeed Venture Partners; Tim Barrows, General Partner, Matrix Partners and Jamie Goldstein, Partner, North Bridge Venture Partners on the company's Board.

Plexxi Launches SDN Starter Kits for Cloud, Big Data

Plexxi is unveiling three starter kits aimed at agile data centers, cloud environments and big data applications. Company officials said the goal of the starter kits is to give businesses and service providers the tools they need to deploy SDN infrastructures that are tailored to their particular workloads, avoiding what they said is a more one-size-fits-all approach that other vendors are taking. A broad range of networking vendors—from established players like Cisco Systems and Dell to smaller vendors like NEC and Pica8—have released such kits designed to help get organizations on the road to SDN adoption. Plexxi officials are looking to differentiate their offerings by enabling businesses to better customize their infrastructures. The starter kit for agile data centers includes two switches, transceivers, cables and control software, according to the company. Also included in the kit for businesses with basic compute, storage and connectivity are integration modules for the OpenStack cloud orchestration platform and VMware's vCenter software. Officials said it is aimed at data centers for both enterprises and public clouds.

Plexxi Announces Executive Changes

Plexxi named former top EMC executive and serial entrepreneur Richard Napolitano as CEO to continue the company's expansion and help drive the networking industry's transition to an application- and data-focused era powered by the explosive growth in mobile, social media, cloud and Big Data. As an independent board member with the company, Napolitano and Plexxi founder David Husak worked in tandem to chart the company's future while preparing to bring Napolitano on board as CEO to scale its growth. Napolitano will continue to work closely with Husak who will serve as executive vice president of strategy and engineering, focusing on the development of its networking technology and products. Napolitano has a long track record of scaling businesses to record growth while disrupting established industries. He has held many top leadership roles in the technology industry, including president of the Unified Storage Division at EMC Corporation, and president and general manager of U.S. sales for Sun Microsystems, which was acquired by Oracle. The company also appointed Tim Lieto as senior vice president of sales and customer service to lead the company's worldwide sales and channel effort and expand its ecosystem of distribution partners and systems integrators. Lieto, who has held similar positions at Sun Microsystems, 3Com and Lucent, has helped develop small companies into large corporations throughout his career by building direct, channel and OEM sales growth.
