Xcel Energy named Christopher Clark to a top leadership position in the company’s Upper Midwest region. Clark will become president of Northern States Power Co. on Jan. 1, upon the retirement of David Sparby. Clark currently is regional vice president of rates and regulatory affairs, overseeing rate and resource planning filings made with state regulatory commissions in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. He has held increasingly responsible roles during his 15-year tenure with the company, beginning as legal counsel in 1999. Prior to joining Xcel Energy, Clark was a regulatory attorney at Alliant Energy. Clark will report to McDaniel.

On Nov. 21, 2014, David M. Sparby, Senior Vice President and Group President, Revenue and President and Chief Executive Officer of Northern States Power, announced his intention to retire effective Dec. 31, 2014, completing over 30 years of distinguished service to Xcel Energy. Marvin McDaniel, who currently serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer will assume Mr. Sparby's Group President responsibilities upon his retirement. Xcel Energy expects to name a new Minnesota President by the end of the year. McDaniel, a 27-year employee of Xcel Energy and its predecessor company New Century Energies, has held a variety of leadership positions in the financial operations, information technology, human resources, and rates and regulatory areas of the company. McDaniel will assume the additional responsibilities on Jan. 1, 2015.
