Fortistar, LLC Key Developments

Fortistar Modernizes Landfill Gas to Renewable Energy Project in Los Angeles

Fortistar announced that it has upgraded its renewable landfill gas (LFG) to energy station at the closed Lopez Canyon Landfill managed by LA Sanitation. The station will supply 3 megawatts (MW) of electrical power to the City of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP). Khalil Gharios with LA Sanitation, Allen Hunt with Fortistar and City of Los Angeles Councilmember Felipe Fuentes rededicate and tour the modernized landfill gas to renewable energy station at the Lopez Canyon Landfill. Located in Lake View Terrace, CA, Fortistar's Lopez Landfill Gas Energy Station is the only LFG renewable energy project in the City of Los Angeles Feed-in Tariff (FiT) program, which promotes active investment in and promotion of renewable energy sources. The FiT Program allows the LADWP to partner with third-party energy companies, like Fortistar, to purchase electricity from renewable energy generating systems for the city's power grid, helping it meet the state-mandated goal of 33% renewable energy by 2020.

Fortistar Announces Executive Changes, Effective November 2, 2015

Fortistar announced that it has appointed Mo Klefeker as Chief Executive Officer of its portfolio company Primary Energy Recycling. Klefeker, who succeeds John D. Prunkl, will assume the role effective November 2, 2015. Klefeker, who returns to Illinois from Colorado, most recently served as President and CEO of Denver based Southwest Generation, which operates natural gas-fired generating facilities in California, New Mexico and Colorado. There he led the growth of the company to $1 billion, expanding the company’s power purchase contracts and embarking upon a strategy to develop wind, solar PV and combined heat and power projects. Klefeker has worked in the independent power and utility industry his entire career, including fourteen years with the utility that serves Northwest Indiana, where Primary Energy Recycling’s projects are located.

Fortistar Acquires Two LFG Projects

Fortistar announced that it acquired two landfill gas (LFG) to energy projects, expanding its landfill gas portfolio by 11 MW. The acquisitions were from Green Gas Americas. The two new projects are both operational; the 8 MW Pioneer Energy project, located in Birdsboro, PA, sells power to Constellation Energy under a long-term offtake agreement. The 3MW Port Charlotte Energy project, located in Punta Gorda, FL, sells power to Orlando Utilities Commission under a long-term contract. Fortistar will own and operate both projects.
