SABIC and SK Global Chemical Signs on $595 Million Joint Venture Agreement

Saudi Arabia's SABIC and SK Global Chemical have signed a $595 million joint venture agreement to manufacture a range of performance polyethylene products. The 50-50 joint venture, which is based in Singapore, is expected to operate a series of production plants, the first of which was recently completed by SK Global Chemical at its complex in Ulsan, South Korea, with an expected annual capacity of 230,000 tones. The plants [in Ulsan] will produce metallocene linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE), polyolefin plastomers and polyolefin elastomers that will meet the growing needs of diverse industries such as advanced packaging, automotive, healthcare, footwear and electrical & lighting. The JV is also planning to build a second production base in Saudi Arabia. Over time, production bases will be established worldwide. SABIC and SK Global Chemical did not provide a timeline for the establishment of the new plants.
