Delhi High Court Permits Xiaomi to Sell Qualcomm-Powered Handsets in India Till January 8, 2014
Dec 16 14
Delhi High Court has given some leeway to Xiaomi and has permitted it to import and sell smartphones in India till January 8, 2014. The company is only allowed to import and sell smartphones in India that are powered by Qualcomm's chipsets. In other words, it won't be able to sell the Redmi Note phablet that it launched in India earlier December. The phablet is powered by a 1.7GHz MediaTek MTK6592 octa-core processor. It can however continue selling the entry-level Redmi 1S that is powered by a 1.6GHz Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor. Xiaomi also recently announced a 4G variant of the Redmi Note, which was originally supposed to go on sale sometime this month. That smartphone too can go on sale in India before January 8, since it is powered by a 1.6GHz Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor. The patent infringement issue in question is the similar to what Ericsson is fighting against the likes of Micromax and Intex.
Xiaomi Tech, MEIZU to Face Lawsuit for Patent Infringement
Nov 20 14
Foreign media said that Microsoft, Nokia and Ericsson will sue Xiaomi Tech and MEIZU for patent infringement. Defendants also included other mobile phone makers in China, because big sales volume recorded by Xiaomi Tech has aroused attention from foreign peers. Founded in 2010, the company has become Chinese biggest and global third biggest mobile phone makers, worrying international rivals. That is why they decided to sue Chinese companies for patent infringement. Although Lenovo Group, Huawei Technologies and ZTE are also included in defendant list, they hold their independent patents while Xiaomi Tech and MEIZU have nothing. Hence, it is still unknown how serious their parent infringement will be. One thing is certain. They will face a tough nut once their patent infringement is confirmed.
