Kik Interactive announced that it has hired a top advertising industry executive to build experiences for brands and partners within the app. Josh Jacobs joins the Waterloo. Jacobs will build a Los Angeles-based presence for the company, expanding the company's footprint beyond its established offices in Waterloo, New York City, and San Francisco. Jacobs, who assumes the title president of the company Services, is charged with cultivating a personal computing ecosystem within Kik by enlisting partners to build compelling chat-based experiences for the app's 200 million users. The company already offers Promoted Chats and Kik Points, opt-in products that allow brands and developers to converse directly with users.

Kik Interactive, Inc. is seeking sale. “Kik Interactive Inc., which makes a messaging application popular with young teens, is exploring a sale,” people with knowledge of the matter said. “The company hired Qatalyst Partners to set up conversations with potential acquirers or corporate investors in Silicon Valley and Asia,” said the people, who asked not to be identified because the process is private. “Kik, based in Waterloo, Ontario, hasn’t yet found an attractive deal,” the people said. Ted Livingston, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Kik Interactive Inc., confirmed the talks, while declining to comment on specific suitors. “We had a lot of inbound interest, especially this year,” Ted Livingston said on April 8, 2015 in an interview. “We hired Qatalyst to work through all the options, one of which is to stay independent.” A representative for San Francisco-based Qatalyst didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
