Vodafone Group May Reportedly Sell Vodafone Hutchison Australia
Nov 20 14
Vodafone Group Public Limited Company (LSE:VOD) is planning to sell Vodafone Hutchison Australia Pty Ltd. Vittorio Colao, Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone Group, said that Vodafone would consider selling its Australian operations along with other non-core assets and has been checking with potential buyers. Colao sad, "We constantly check with possible parties interested in some of our less core assets. We would consider sales but we are not distressed sellers so therefore we must sell at full value. Otherwise we keep them and manage the cash." After the comments emerged, Vodafone Hutchison Australia said in a statement that Colao was referring to the general principle that Vodafone was open to potential changes to its portfolio and it had no specific plans to sell. The joint-venture nature of Vodafone Hutchison Australia also means all major decisions must be accepted and funded by both parties, which in turn makes it less attractive to potential buyers. In the clarifying statement issued on November 20, 2014, Vodafone Group said that Colao did not want to give the impression that the group had any definite plans to sell any of its local assets.
