DHL Global Forwarding Inc. Key Developments
DHL Global Forwarding Inc. Adds Taiwan into its Pioneering and Fast Expanding North Asia Multimodal Network
Nov 4 15
DHL Global Forwarding has added Taiwan into its pioneering and fast expanding North Asia multimodal network. The sea link between Taiwan and mainland China offers customers the full-container load door-to-door service, DHL Railline, and will connect the leading Taichung port to Shanghai with a rail link to Warsaw via Suzhou, which also serves as a base for over 10,000 Taiwan-funded export-oriented enterprises. DHL now offers three multimodal rail services between mainland China and Europe. The sea link that added Japan and now Taiwan into the network means that customers all over North Asia now have an alternative to sea and airfreight - as do their trading partners across Europe - and access to benefits such as reduced transit times, costs and CO 2 emissions. Similar to the Japan service originating from Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Kobe and Hakata launched last year, the new multimodal Taiwan-China-Europe service will offer freight costs savings of up to 85% and CO 2 emissions by up to 90% compared to air freight with shorter transit times than ocean freight. The seamless scheduled service will use a combination of trucking, sea and rail solutions to move cargo from Taiwan into DHL Global Forwarding China's rail freight solution which reduces the delivery time by between 10 and 21 days, depending on origin and destination pairs, compared to solely using ocean freight. Using the DHL Railline service, customers can block out single containers, wagon groups or whole block trains. A true door-to-door service, DHL's multimodal solution for Taiwan uses any and all combinations of rail, ship and road to connect the market's businesses to Europe with the reassurance of high security and last mile delivery by truck or rail. From Europe, the multimodal service is also available via rail through mainland China and sea to Taiwan for import shipments. Customers now have more choices and more flexibility whether their cargo are being shipped from Taiwan, Japan, mainland China or Europe.
DHL Global Forwarding Inc. Opens New Logistics Center for Pharmaceuticals Industry in Germany
Sep 30 15
DHL Global Forwarding has opened a new logistics center for the pharmaceuticals industry in Morfelden-Walldorf, Germany. The new competency center is located near the Frankfurt/Rhine-Main airport and serves as a hub for the transport, transport preparation, temporary storage, and transport follow-up of active and passive temperature-controlled pharmaceutical and medicinal products. In the new logistics center DHL administers a total of 33,000 square meters of warehouse space. Due to the continuous growth in temperature-controlled air freight, DHL Global Forwarding needed a larger facility near Frankfurt. The division established in the logistics center in Morfelden a 600 square meters competency center with two different temperature-controlled areas. One area is meant for pharmaceutical products that must be stored at constant temperatures between 2 to 8 degrees, while the second one dedicated to a controlled temperature range of between 15 to 25 degrees Celsius. The facilities are equipped with numerous temperature and humidity sensors that immediately sound an alarm should conditions fall outside of established parameters. Furthermore, the center meets the latest safety standards and complies with the new Good Distribution Practice guidelines of the European Union.
