Derrick L. Tallman has joined University Health Services (UHS) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst as associate director and director of finance and human resources. He replaces Maria T. Coach, who retired during the summer after more than 40 years with the university. Tallman most recently served as administrator of Western Massachusetts Hospital in Westfield. For the last seven years, Tallman has served as a member of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health's governing body for the state's four public health hospitals.

Dr. Margaret Spear, senior director of University Health Services, retired at the end of July after 24 years at Penn State, with 21 of those years in her current position. As the senior director of UHS, Spear continually shaped the quality of patient care. In the early years of her tenure at UHS, she led a comprehensive organizational change process, which resulted in improvements in quality of care, service provision, and staff and student satisfaction.

Scott Ansede has joined the Executive Team of University Health Care System as the vice president of professional and support services. Ansede has a long career in the healthcare industry in both not-for-profit and for-profit settings, most recently as the chief operating officer for Aiken Regional Medical Center. He will oversee pharmacy, radiology, laboratory, rehab services, plant operations, safety and security, environmental services and nutrition services. Mr. Ansede has a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology and master’s degree in Business administration with concentrations in Finance and Marketing from Pepperdine University, and an MBA with a Healthcare Management concentration from California Lutheran University.
