FremantlFremantleMedia Signs an Exclusive Joint Venture Agreement with BesTV and China Media Capital

FremantleMedia has signed an exclusive joint venture agreement with Shanghai Media Group's (SMG) BesTV and China Media Capital (CMC). As per the JV, the companies have agreed to create and develop entertainment formats for the China market, for reaching millions of viewers on Dragon TV and BesTV platforms, and take proprietary China content to the world market through FremantleMedia s global distribution network. The bespoke development team based in Shanghai, will include international experts and local producers and will draw on FremantleMedia's creative strength to develop original entertainment IP. FremantleMedia International outside of mainland China, will represent the newly-created IP through its worldwide distribution network.

SMG Reportedly Acquires Beijing Galloping

Shanghai Media Group, Inc. has acquired Beijing Galloping Horse Film & TV Production Co., Ltd., according to the local reports. Beijing Galloping has reportedly started entertaining a number of takeover bids. Suitors are believed to include China Media Capital. “Those reports are simply wrong,” a source close to the negotiations told Variety. “There are a number of companies currently doing due diligence. We are maybe two weeks away from knowing which one to go with.” Officially, Beijing Galloping is saying nothing.

IMAX Planning To Sell IMAX China To Investors

IMAX Corporation (NYSE:IMAX) is planning to sell IMAX China Holding Inc. Wall Street Journal reported quoting IMAX Chief Executive, Richard Gelfond as saying that IMAXis planning to sell 20% stake in unit to China Media Capital and FountainVest Partners. The report added that the two investors will each pay around $40 million for stakes of 10% by early 2015. The report also stated that IMAX, China Media Capital and FountainVest Partners could not immediately be reached for comment, while Richard Gelfond did not respond to emailed queries. IMAX is looking to list IMAX China in Hong Kong in the next five years but has not ruled out a mainland listing in Shanghai or Shenzhen.
