Ministry Plans To Offload Sabeco Stake

The Ministry of Industry and Trade is drawing up a plan to sell 53% of its stakes in Saigon Beer Alcohol Beverage Corporation (Sabeco). In the plan, which must be submitted to the Government for approval, the shares would be auctioned and the State holdings in Sabeco would decrease from the current 89% to 36% after the sale. More than 10 domestic and foreign investors have expressed their interest in buying Sabeco's stakes such as Thai Beverage Public Company Limited (SGX:Y92), Heineken Holding NV (ENXTAM:HEIO), SABMiller plc (LSE:SAB), Asahi Group Holdings, Ltd. (TSE:2502), Saigon Securities Incorporation (HOSE:SSI), Sunshine Consulting and Investment Joint Stock Co. and Duc Binh Group. The ministry will likely choose two investors from the group.

Singha Joins Race To Acquire SABECO

Singha Corporation Co., Ltd. has joined the race to acquire a stake in Saigon Beer Alcohol Beverage Corporation. Vietnam's ministry of Industry and Trade owns 89.6% stake in SABECO, which is valued at over $2 billion, and the government is open to selling up to 53% in the company to strategic investors. Singha may also have to compete with Heineken group for SABECO.

Thai Beverage Seeks To Buy 40% In Saigon Beer Alchol

Thai Beverage Public Company Limited (SGX:Y92) is seeking to buy about 40% stake in Saigon Beer Alcohol Beverage Corporation for about $1 billion, the people said. ThaiBev has offered to pay as much as $3.76 per share. ThaiBev and Singha declined to comment.
