Discovery Communications Inc. Names Marjorie Kaplan as New President of Content for Discovery Networks International

Discovery Communications Inc. appointed Marjorie Kaplan as its new president of content for Discovery Networks International. In the newly created role, Kaplan will be the international content leader responsible for strategy, coordination and execution of all the division's content and brand strategies across the entire portfolio, as well as on all platforms worldwide. Kaplan, the group president of TLC (US) and Animal Planet (US), last year expanded her oversight to include Velocity (US). She will relocate this October to Discovery's international headquarters in London.

Discovery Networks International Appoints Arthur Bastings as New Head of Asia-Pacific Region

Discovery Networks International announced that it has recently named Arthur Bastings as the new head of the Asia-Pacific region. He will join the company Asia-Pacific (DNAP) from Millicom where he was a member of the Executive Committee responsible for Africa and Financial Services, focusing on mobile and information and communications technology convergence. Bastings will bring to DNAP, 20 years worth of experience working in the media business. Part of his experience includes leading strategy and business development for Viacom across Asia. He also previously spent six years as Executive Vice President and Managing Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) for Discovery. Under his leadership, Discovery's EMEA business transformed by doubling audiences and generating exceptional organic growth that resulted in one of the fast growing and large pay TV businesses in the region. As President and Managing Director of the company Asia-Pacific (DNAP), Bastings will be responsible for setting regional strategy and maximizing the potential of DNAP's business and workforce to accelerate the company's expansion. His remit will include fortifying DNAP's sports offering and leading strategies in the Asia-Pacific region, in partnership with Peter Hutton, CEO of Eurosport.

Discovery Networks May Reportedly Divest Nordic Radio Stations

Discovery Networks International LLC will divest its radio stations in the Nordic region including Radio 100, The Voice, Pop FM and Nova, Dagens Media reported. The report added that the radio stations will be sold as they do not match Discovery Networks' core focus areas.
