The place of performance will be in Alexandria and Arlington, Virginia; Bethesda, Maryland; and Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.

Cerner Corp. along with Leidos Inc. and Accenture Federal Services was awarded the contract. The contract, reported to be one of the information technology contracts in history, ultimately could be worth $9 billion over 18 years. The Defense Department said the new system will manage the electronic health records for 9.5 million members of the military and their family members. It also will improve the ability to exchange information with the Department of Veterans Affairs and health systems in the private sector. Leidos and Cerner initially will install the system at eight locations in the Pacific Northwest late next year. The system eventually will be installed at more than 1,000 locations worldwide, including 55 hospitals and more than 600 clinics run by the Defense Department.
