General Photonics Introduces New Polarization Synthesizer/Analyzer

General Photonics announced a new Polarization Synthesizer/Analyzer for both laboratory and system use. The new version offers much faster measurement and expanded stabilization functions that facilitate applications such as coherent receiver testing. The PSY-201 uses General Photonics patented fiber squeezer and polarimeter technologies to generate and maintain any output SOP (state of polarization) regardless of the input SOP. Other built-in polarization control functions include generation of preprogrammed SOP sequences and traces, and variable-rate polarization scrambling. The internal polarimeter can also be used independently for polarization analysis. New features specifically designed for automated test equipment systems include triggered measurement, analog monitor voltages, more robust communication interfaces, and an SCPI-compliant command set. Summary of Technical Specifications: The PSY-201 covers either the 1460-1620nm (S, C, and L bands) or 1280-1340 wavelength ranges. It has a sampling rate of up to 2M samples/s and an analog bandwidth of 1MHz. It also has an expanded operating power range of -40 to +10 dBm. The instrument is delivered with PolaView™ software for real-time graphical representation of data on a Poincaré sphere or in a real-time virtual oscilloscope. It can be controlled either from the front panel or remotely via USB, Ethernet, RS-232 or GPIB interfaces. In addition, it has four user-configurable analog monitor voltage outputs to monitor DOP, Stokes parameters, or power level. Like all of the 200-series instruments, it has an OLED graphic display, ergonomic keypad, and universal power supply.

General Photonics Introduces 200-Series Instruments at OFC 2013

General Photonics announced new versions of all of its primary polarization measurement and control instruments. The 200-series instruments are easy to use in factory settings or as automated test equipment (ATE). The new 200-series instrument line includes: MPC-201 multifunction polarization controller; ERM-202 dual or single-channel polarization extinction ratio meter; DOP-201 DOP meter; PDL-201 PDL multimeter; POS-20X polarization stabilizer (various configurations available for maximum flexibility); POD-201 polarimeter (various configurations available for different applications); PSY-201 polarization synthesizer/analyzer. All of the new instruments have OLED graphic displays for easy viewing at a distance, ergonomic keypads, universal power supplies, faster electronics, and faster, more robust communication interfaces. Most of the measurement instruments also have configurable analog monitor voltage outputs for use in automated testing. In every case, the instruments have been optimized for improved performance, greater user control, and ease of use. The 200-series instruments will be demonstrated at OFC /NFOEC at the Anaheim Convention Center. Visitors to the event may stop by General Photonics' booth #2650 for a product demonstration March 19-21, 2013, during show hours. The MPC-201, MPC-202, and ERM-202 are available now. The DOP-201, PDL-201, POS-20X, PSY-201, and POD-201 will be available in 12 to 14 weeks.
