Orlando Health, Inc. Key Developments

Orlando Health Names David W. Strong as CEO to Replace Jamal Hakim

Orlando Health has named David W. Strong the new president and CEO. The decision comes nearly a year and half after the hospital system's former CEO Sherrie Sitarik resigned in September 2013. Since then Dr. Jamal Hakim has been the hospital's interim CEO. Strong will take on his new role in April. He currently serves as president of Rex Healthcare in Raleigh, N.C. In his new role, Strong will be responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction of Orlando Health and its eight wholly owned or partnership hospitals, as well as Orlando Health Physician Group and Physician Associates, outpatient surgery center and a subsidiary interest in five outpatient imaging centers.

Orlando Health Hired Kaufman Hall

Orlando Health, Inc. has hired Kaufman Hall & Associates, Inc. to help hospital chain explore options to evaluate partnerships. Dianna Morgan, Chairman of Orlando said, "We have engaged Kaufman Hall, a nationally known expert in hospital management, to help us explore options that will position us more competitively for the future". He also added, "We have worked with Kaufman Hall on other strategic issues over the years. Throughout our 95-year history Orlando Health has prospered through alliances; and the rapid changes we are seeing in health care make it clear that we must evaluate partnerships which can enhance our patient care model as well as our business model".

Orlando Health Reportedly Seeks A Partner

Orlando Health, Inc. is looking for a potential partner, sources told the Orlando Sentinel. There were several potential bidders interested in Orlando for profit and non profit. Kena Lewis, Spokeswoman of Orlando, said, "Orlando is not up for sale and in this dynamic health-care environment, health-care organizations are always exploring partnerships, no different from the ones we already have in place with organizations like UF Health. Quality health-care organizations are partnering all across the country, and Orlando Health will continue to evaluate and pursue any partnership that will allow us to deliver the highest quality clinical services more efficiently." A source said, "As we looked into enhancing our relationships, it didn't seem wise in this environment to fail to explore all our options. That led to a discussion about affiliations, mergers and partnerships, but we never talked about selling." Source added, "We are exploring more potential relationships, which could range from something like what we've done with Shands to perhaps a full partnership that would give us a statewide presence." After reviewing the proposals Orlando will select one by July 2014, source said.
