American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Names Mike Santay to Chair Audit Standards Board

Grant Thornton LLP’s National Partner for Auditing Standards, Mike Santay, has been elected to chair the Audit Standards Board of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Santay began serving as chair at the Audit Standards Board meeting on January 12, 2016. Santay joined Grant Thornton in 2003, and, in his current role, he leads the firm’s participation in professional committees and task forces focused on audit matters including developing firm responses to professional and regulatory proposals specific to auditing standards. He also assists in the development of firm audit policies and guidance and consults on risk management of other audit and firm matters.

Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP Chairman and CEO Tim Christen has been elected the new chairman of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). Christen has been Baker Tilly’s CEO since 1999. He is actively engaged with Baker Tilly International and other member firms in The Baker Tilly International network. He currently serves on the Baker Tilly International Board of Directors, the North American Regional Advisory Council and chairs the remuneration committee.
American Institute of CPAs Names Cari Weston as Director of Taxation

The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) named Cari Weston, CPA, CGMA, director of taxation. In her new role, Weston will lead the AICPA's Taxation Team in providing the information and resources required by AICPA members who provide tax planning, preparation, examination and representation services to their clients. The resources include tax practice quality control and management tools, as well as guidance and best practices related to tax ethics and practice standards. Weston had her own tax practice firm in Austin, Texas before she joined the AICPA in 2013 as senior technical manager of taxation. She has spent 20 years in public accounting. Weston served on the AICPA's Tax Practice Management Committee from 2011 to 2013. She is also a member of the Texas Society of CPAs, where she held several appointed volunteer posts.
