Hill & Knowlton, Inc. Key Developments

Hill+Knowlton Strategies Expands African Operations to Nigeria

Hill+Knowlton Strategies has expanded its physical footprint in Africa with the launch of a new office in Lagos, Nigeria. Hill+Knowlton Strategies Nigeria builds on the company’s existing strong presence in Sub-Saharan Africa and further extends the agency's ability to serve its rapidly expanding client interests in African countries in a fully integrated way. The Hill+Knowlton Strategies global network consists of some 88 offices, including key African markets such as Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda. Hill+Knowlton’s entry into Nigeria reflects a recognition of the vast economic and commercial potential of the West African country, which sits among the top five investment countries in Africa, and which has seen a surge in capital inflows into the market. Additional streams for investment have also opened up, with the establishment of fledgling economic sectors in the Nigerian market. The growth in investment and funding for domestic companies, as well as an increase in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and joint ventures in the country, has created an attractive platform for H+K from which to grow and develop its client base.

Hill+Knowlton Strategies Appoints Claudia Gioia as Head of Latin America, Effective from April 1, 2015

Hill+Knowlton Strategies announced that Claudia Gioia is joining Hill+Knowlton Strategies on April 1 as head of the firm’s Latin American region. In her role as president and CEO of Latin America, reporting to Americas president and CEO Mike Coates, Gioia takes the helm of a six-market operation with an expanding roster of global and local brands. Gioia joins H+K from fellow WPP agency Burson-Marsteller with extensive experience over several positions during her 19-year tenure at the agency. Most recently she was EVP for the Burson-Marsteller Miami office and led the U.S. Hispanic discipline. Gioia also has been the WPP Ford communications client leader for Latin America. Prior to that, and over seven years, she was the firm’s Innovation and Technology Practice chair, overseeing clients in 15 markets. Gioia will be taking over the role from Antonio Tamayo, who is retiring from full-time service. Tamayo has led the region for the last two years, and prior to that was head of H+K’s Mexico office.
