Avago Reportedly Shows Interest In Xilinx, Renesas, Maxim

Avago Technologies Limited (NasdaqGS:AVGO), looking to acquire a fellow chipmaker, has reached out to potential targets including Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE:6723), Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. (NasdaqGS:MXIM) and Xilinx Inc. (NasdaqGS:XLN), according to people familiar with the matter. Avago is working with investment banks and could spend more than $10 billion on a potential takeover, the people said. None of the three approaches has yet led to advanced deal discussions, in part because of Avago's fear of overpaying, the people added. Avago has also spoken to Silver Lake Partners about partnering in a potential acquisition, the people said.

Xilinx Inc. Announces the Release of the Vivado® Design Suite 2015

Xilinx Inc. announced acceleration of system verification with the release of the Vivado® Design Suite 2015, featuring major productivity advances for the development and deployment of All Programmable FPGAs and SoCs. This release includes the Vivado Lab Edition, accelerated Vivado Simulator and third party simulation flows, interactive clock domain crossing (CDC) analysis, and advanced system performance analysis with the Xilinx® Software Development Kit (SDK). The Vivado Lab Edition is a no-cost, lightweight programming and debug edition of the Vivado Design Suite. The Lab Edition includes the Vivado Device Programmer, Vivado Logic and Serial I/O Analyzer, as well as memory debug tools. It is intended for use in lab environments where the full-featured Vivado Design Suite is not required. The Vivado Lab Edition is 75% smaller than the complete Vivado Design Edition, which considerably reduces lab set-up time and system memory requirements. For design teams that require remote debug or programming over Ethernet, the Vivado Design Suite 2015.1 also provides a standalone hardware server, which is less than 1% of the complete Vivado Design Edition. The Vivado Design Suite 2015.1 also features advancements in the simulation flows that reduce the LogiCORE™ IP compile times by over 2x. As a result, overall simulation performance is 20% faster compared to previous releases. The release also includes fully-integrated simulation flows with Alliance Program members, Aldec, Cadence Design Systems, Mentor Graphics and Synopsys. The Vivado Design Suite 2015.1 is available now with support for Xilinx's 7 series FPGAs and SoCs and UltraScale™ devices.

HMS Industrial Networks AB announced that it is collaborating with Xilinx to deliver next generation industrial networking solutions. HMS's latest industrial network IP is based on the leading Anybus technology for Xilinx® FPGA and SoC devices. HMS is the worldwide leader in Industrial network technology and has connected more than three million devices to industrial networks in demanding applications with its Anybus technology. Xilinx® Artix®-7 FPGAs and Zynq®-7000 All Programmable SoCs integrate FPGA technology with dual-core ARM® CortexTM-A9 MPCoreTM processors, giving developers a powerful and flexible basis with high performance embedded processing power and hardware acceleration. HMS, a Xilinx Alliance Program Member, is adapting the Anybus technology to the FPGA and Zynq platforms, with the aim of enabling Xilinx customers to implement all popular Industrial Ethernet protocols, such as Profinet, Ethernet/IP, Powerlink and EtherCAT. The objective is to form the first one-stop-shop solution for industrial communication IP cores on Xilinx and leverage Anybus's platform concept for a new level of integration and productivity. HMS expect the Anybus technology to be available for Zynq All Programmable SoC customers during the second half of 2015.

Xilinx Inc. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the fourth quarter and year ended March 28, 2015. For the quarter, net revenue was $566,900,000 against $617,823,000 a year ago. Operating income was $158,520,000 against $189,517,000 a year ago. Income before income taxes was $159,478,000 against $175,850,000 a year ago. Net income was $134,623,000 or $0.50 per diluted share against $156,027,000 or $0.53 per diluted share a year ago. Net cash provided by operating activities was $166,039,000 against $189,375,000 a year ago. Purchases of property, plant and equipment was $5,937,000 against $14,148,000 a year ago. Capital expenditures were $6 million against $14 million a year ago. Annual return on equity was 24% against 22% a year ago.
For the year, net revenue was $2,382,531,000 against $2,377,344,000 a year ago. Operating income was $755,078,000 against $748,927,000 a year ago. Income before income taxes was $740,076,000 against $709,526,000 a year ago. Net income was $648,216,000 or $2.35 per diluted share against $ 630,388,000 or $2.19 per diluted share a year ago. Net cash provided by operating activities was $790,780,000 against $804,917,000 a year ago. Purchases of property, plant and equipment was $29,619,000 against $44,865a year ago.
For the quarter ending June of fiscal 2016, sales are expected to be flat 4%. Gross margin is expected to be approximately 69% to 70%. The tax rate is expected to be approximately 13% to 14%.
