Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation Unveils Two Dual-Port Gigabit Ethernet PHY Reference Designs

Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation announced availability of VSC8502RD and VSC8502RD-VR, its two dual-port gigabit ethernet, or GE, PHY reference designs based on the SimpliPHY VSC8502 10/100/1000BASE-T GE PHY. The new dual-port copper, four-layer PCB reference designs can be leveraged to serve a broad range of markets and applications including: IP Telephony; Digital Signage; Network Attached Storage (NAS); Industrial-IoT (IIoT), including industrial process control, smart-grid energy distribution, transportation, factory automation & mission critical applications; Customer Premise Equipment (CPE), such as broadband gateways, routers /access points and IP set-top boxes (STB); Virtual Customer Premise Equipment (vCPE); Small Cells /Femto Cells /Pico
Cells; and 3D Printers. The VSC8502RD and VSC8502RD-VR feature Vitesse's VSC8502, a dual-port GE transceiver with Synchronous Ethernet, Wake-on-LAN and VeriPHY functionality. The device's highly thermal-efficient packaging make it an ideal choice for fanless design enclosures. The voltage-mode line driver architecture with integrated line side termination resistors conserve both power and printed circuit board space while offering a lower EMI signature vs. current-mode line drivers. The VSC8502RD reference design has been fully UNH-IOL compliance test validated. The VSC8502RD-VR reference design employs integrated voltage regulators, enabling Vitesse's VSC8502 (as well as the pin-compatible, single port VSC8501) GE PHY to run from a single 3.3V power supply.
Vitesse Semiconductor Corp. Announces Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for the First Quarter Ended December 31, 2014; Provides Earnings Guidance for the Second Quarter Ending March 31, 2015 and Fiscal Year 2015

Vitesse Semiconductor Corp. announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the first quarter ended December 31, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported total net revenue was $24.75 million, compared to $27.08 million in the first quarter of fiscal year 2013. Loss from operations was $4.15 million, compared to $2.214 million in the first quarter of fiscal year 2013. Loss before income tax expense was $4.996 million against $5.573 million a year ago. Non-GAAP loss from operations was $2.219 million, compared to non-GAAP operating loss of $0.861 million in the first quarter of fiscal year 2013. Net loss was $5.041 million, or $0.07 per basic and fully diluted share. This compares to net loss of $5.371 million, or $0.09 per basic and fully diluted share, in the first quarter of fiscal year 2013. Non-GAAP net loss was $3.11 million, or $0.04 per basic and fully diluted share, compared to non-GAAP net loss of $2.424 million, or $0.04 per basic and fully diluted share, in the first quarter of fiscal year 2013. Cash used by operations totaled $6 million, including $3.5 million used for working capital, primarily due to investments and inventory.
For the second quarter of fiscal year 2015, ending March 31, 2015, the company expects revenues to be in the range of $24.0 million to $26.0 million and product margins to be between 58% and 61%. GAAP operating expenses are expected to be between $17.5 million and $18.5 million.
For the fiscal year 2015, the company expects operating expenses to be at about $73 million, about flat from fiscal 2014.

Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation has unveiled new additions to its 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GE) PHY portfolio, the VSC8256, VSC8257 and VSC8258 quad channel 10/40G physical layer transceiver family enabling government-grade, FIPS-197-certified 256-bit MACsec encryption to protect critical Enterprise, Cloud and mobile network infrastructures. Cloud service providers and data centers need to enable secure Ethernet service delivery between Enterprises and the Internet Cloud. This drives the need for higher performance, higher-capacity WAN Edge and data center connectivity. Additionally, server adapters, or Network Interface Cards (NICs), are evolving into intelligent application accelerators or application offload engines to maximize server CPU utilization in compute-hungry applications such as high frequency trading, Web 2.0, and data analytics in embedded industrial environments. Addressing these needs, Vitesse's VSC8256, VSC8257 and VSC8258 enable secured connections with improved quality and efficiencies, delivering: High capacity 40G connectivity; Highly accurate VeriTime™ IEEE 1588 network timing; and Flexible Layer 2 security (Intellisec™ IEEE 802.1AE MACsec) offload for companion network processors, I/O processors, MAC controllers and/or FPGA-based designs. For IP Edge and access networks, higher capacity, more intelligence and secured Ethernet transport are key to enabling cloud service delivery to users, whether mobile, Enterprise or industrial. Secure and highly accurate network-based timing, now a given for mobile networks and a growing number of Enterprise, will ultimately enable Cloud connectivity to Industrial-IoT networks. The VSC825x family is the industry's only to deliver 40G connectivity with "secure 1588," made possible by Vitesse's FIPS-certified Intellisec IEEE 802.1AE MACsec security encryption technology and Vitesse's VeriTime IEEE 1588 timing and synchronization. The IEEE 1588 timing accuracy required in TD-LTE and LTE-Advanced mobile networks is impossible in conjunction with traditional MACsec implementations. Together, Intellisec and VeriTime deliver line-rate 256-bit encryption with the industry's de facto high accuracy IEEE 1588 timing. Intellisec's "tag-in-the-clear" capability also provides the network transparency needed to enable use of third party networks for delivery of critical services to mobile, Enterprise and Industrial-IoT networks. The VSC825x family delivers various unique advantages including: Seamless pin-for-pin hardware upgrade from an intelligent KR repeater function to a highly integrated Ethernet PHY with security and accurate IEEE 1588 network timing distribution capabilities; Standard 10G serial interfaces, simplifying hardware design and offering direct connections to most recent SOCs and FPGAs, and Ability to maximize network provisioning flexibility for a tiered service delivery. The new 10GE PHY family includes: VSC8256: Serial-quad channel 1G/10G Ethernet retimer and repeater; VSC8257: Serial quad channel 1G/10G Ethernet PHY with VeriTime IEEE 1588 timing and synchronization; and VSC8258: Serial quad channel 1G/10G Ethernet PHY with VeriTime IEEE 1588 timing and synchronization and Intellisec IEEE 802.1AE MACsec.

Building on the reliability and success of Vitesse's signal integrity IC portfolio with proven FlexEQ adaptive equalization technology, the VSC7112 enables the industry's lowest BOM cost solution for PCIe Gen 3.0 repeater applications, offering 20% savings over competitive options. The VSC7112 is ideal for solving signal integrity challenges as the PCIe protocol expands beyond consumer peripherals into blade servers, Enterprise storage, and cloud computing. Vitesse offers a wide range of signal conditioning ICs across port speeds, channel counts and feature sets for applications in Carrier, Enterprise, data center, as well as broadcast and professional video.
