Seagate Technology plc Develops World’s High Density Mobile Hard Drive Technology

Seagate Technology plc announced it has achieved a major milestone in areal density with a new hard disk that can offer as much as 2TB of capacity in a slim 7mm package. This achievement is significant because in final product form it will give OEMs freedom to design a new generation of elegant mobile products that are extremely thin and stylish, light-weight, fast, power-efficient and cost-effective. Featuring cutting-edge storage technology, the new drive technology is the first to incorporate recording-subsystem components head, media, preamp, channel to achieve even greater areal densities, well ahead of competitive offerings. Its advanced, high-spatial efficiency mechanics deliver lightweight, low acoustics and strong mechanical robustness capable of new levels of drive stability even when subject to intense shock and vibrations. The new drive weighs just 3.17 oz., and is 25% lighter than the previous generation of Seagate's mobile hard drive products. Smaller drives free up valuable space in a mobile device to accommodate additional designed-in features, such as bigger batteries, more memory and better air circulation. With up to 2TB of space, the drive can also enable affordable high capacity storage storing more than 500,000 songs, 320,000 photos, 240 hours of high definition video or 26 hours of 4K ultra-high definition content.

Seagate Technology plc unveiled its new portfolio of 8TB high capacity drives, the Seagate Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD, Seagate Enterprise NAS HDD and Seagate Kinetic HDD. The new drives provide small- and medium-sized businesses and large enterprises with the world’s high capacity, most reliable, and high performance storage solutions available, all optimized to match the unique storage requirements for each market segment. Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD— World-Class Reliability Meets High-Capacity, Within the cloud and traditional enterprise markets, businesses need high capacity and extremely reliable data storage solutions. Seagate’s 8TB Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD drive addresses these needs by incorporating proven conventional magnetic recording hard drive technology, backed by nine generations of data center innovation. Enterprise customers also want world class performance from their storage solutions and the 8TB Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD delivers for them with a 100% increase in random read/write performance compared to previous generations, driving a vast improvement in IT performance across the enterprise. Enterprise NAS HDD— Enterprise Capacity Meets SMBs, Small- and medium-sized businesses require high reliability too, but they also need storage solutions that can scale to support enterprise class performance as business mandates change and the company grows. Seagate Expands Flash Portfolio with New Nytro Flash Products

Seagate Technology plc announced at the Flash Memory Summit conference the new Nytro® XF1440 2.5”, Nytro XM1440 M.2 non-volatile memory express (NVMe) Solid State Drives (SSDs) and the Nytro XP6500 Flash Accelerator Card. These products extend Seagate’s portfolio of flash-based solutions, which are designed to work in conjunction with Seagate storage products to meet nearly any data storage need. For enterprise and cloud end users as well as cloud original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and system partners, these new products feature the high level of reliability and endurance. The drives and the accelerator card are best suited for demanding enterprise applications, such as online transaction processing (OLTP), high frequency trading, high-performance computing (HPC), data warehousing, data mining and data analytics as well as workloads with mixed IO sizes and multiple applications running simultaneously. The Seagate Nytro XF1440 and XM1440 are power efficient, high performance NVMe SSDs available in ultra-small (2.5” and M.2) form factors. Offering a balance of power and performance, these drives are engineered to increase storage density, while reducing the storage footprint and power use in data centers. The Seagate Nytro XP6500 is a PCIe flash accelerator card delivering the lowest write latency within the Nytro product portfolio improving response time in applications requiring high Input/Output Operations Per Second (IOPS) and bandwidth suitable for a broad range of workloads.

Seagate Technology plc announced the availability of the 1200.2 Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) Solid State Drive (SSD). The Seagate® 1200.2 SAS SSD is the first product to result from a strategic alliance between Seagate and Micron Technology,
Inc. announced in February 2015. The Seagate 1200.2 SAS SSD is engineered for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and system builder partners who design and build scalable, modular storage solutions for enterprise applications. It's also available to enterprise end users who want to directly upgrade and expand their existing SAS storage infrastructure and
investment. For enterprise and cloud customers with critical production systems requiring high data availability, the drive delivers the data integrity required in the event of an unexpected power loss. The Seagate 1200.2 SAS SSD provides superior data protection and reliability that protects data from undetected, unintentional corruption and prevents unauthorized access to the drive and stored data with three levels of security. Additional features include the following: storage density range including 4TB-class capacity in a 2.5-inch form factor; Dual-port SAS interface configurable to provide up to 1800 MB/s sequential read performance or high data availability with failover redundancy and no single point of failure; next generation Power Loss Protection (PLP) maintains high data integrity to prevent loss of user data in flight in the event of unexpected power interruptions; superior data protection and reliability, achieved by combining full internal and external data path protection and multi-layered error recovery technology with advanced error detection/correction encoding optimized for NAND media; three levels of security including secure diagnostics and download (SD&D), Seagate Secure Self-Encrypting Drive (SED) and FIPS drive.
