Marriott International, Inc. Announces Management Changes; Plans to Expand 100 Hotels in 2015 and Add Another 50 Across Nine New Countries by 2017

With plans to expand to 100 hotels in 2015 and add another 50 across nine new countries by 2017, Marriott International, Inc. has named Tim Sheldon as President of its Caribbean & Latin America (CALA) region. Currently the company's Global Chief Operations Officer, Sheldon will begin his new role in June. The region's previous President, Craig S. Smith, will be returning to Hong Kong to become President and Managing Director of the Marriott's Asia-Pacific region, where he previously served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operations officer. Sheldon will capitalize on the company's rapid regional expansion to drive operational excellence in partnership with the company's owners and franchisees. Previously, Sheldon was executive vice president for Global Brand Management and Lodging Operations and also has served as senior vice president and brand manager for the company's Select-Service and Extended-Stay portfolio.

Marriott International, Inc. provided earnings outlook for the year 2015. For the period, the company expects operating income to be in the range of $1.35 billion to $1.40 billion. For second quarter of 2015, the company expects total fee revenue to be in the range of $490 million to $500 million, earnings per share to be in the range of $0.78 to $0.83, and operating income to be in the range of $350 million to $370 million. The company expects diluted EPS to be in the range of $3.00 to $3.12.

JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts continues to expand its luxury portfolio in China with the opening of the 228-room JW Marriott Hotel Zhejiang Anji. Marriott International, Inc. announced that Ambassador Susan Schwab was elected director at the company's Annual Meeting of Shareholders. Ambassador Schwab fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Harry Pearce after 20 years of service. Ambassador Schwab served as U.S. Trade Representative in the Bush Administration from June 2006 to January 2009, and as Deputy Trade Representative from October 2005 to June 2006. She is currently a professor at the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland, and a strategic advisor to Mayer Brown, LLP. Ambassador Schwab also serves on the boards of The Boeing Company, Caterpillar Inc., and FedEx Corporation.
