Symmetry Electronics and Lattice Semiconductor Corporation Announce Signing of Distribution Agreement

Symmetry Electronics and Lattice Semiconductor Corporation announced the signing of a new distribution agreement for Symmetry to offer the full line of Lattice products. This agreement follows Lattice’s acquisition of Symmetry supplier Silicon Image in March 2015. Lattice Semiconductor offers smart connectivity solutions by bridging the gap between programmable connectivity and wired and wireless connectivity. The MHL, HDMI, and 60GHz millimeter wave RF expertise gained in the Silicon Image acquisition pairs brilliantly with Lattice’s innovative FPGAs, featuring smaller packages, lower power requirements, and lower cost. Instead of a waterfall process to slim down from the needs of the highest-end, most complex architecture, Lattice focuses on building more efficient FPGAs and scaling up as necessary. This new breed of FPGAs offer a new option to customers who might not realize their designs could benefit from an FPGA, often due to the traditional limitations of size, complexity, and cost.

Lattice Semiconductor Corporation Expands USB Type-C Product Family

Lattice Semiconductor Corporation announced the expansion of its USB Type-C product family with the introduction of its latest SiI7012, SiI7013 and SiI7014 port controllers. Port controllers are used to configure the USB Type-C Upstream Facing Port (UFP) or Downstream Facing Port (DFP), detect cable orientation and negotiate Power Delivery (PD) on the USB Type-C connection. Lattice devices deliver space, cost and power efficient designs that provide flexibility, enabling rapid adoption for manufacturers transitioning to the latest USB Type-C interfaces. These three new designs join Lattice’s existing USB Type-C port controllers to deliver a comprehensive product portfolio. The SiI7012 and SiI7013 port controllers offer a single integrated solution that can detect and decode Configuration Channel (CC) and Biphase Mark Code (BMC) messaging over USB Type-C connectors without the need for discrete components. These ICs work in conjunction with existing Application Processors (AP) and Embedded Controllers (EC) to provide cost-optimized USB Type-C port controllers. These solutions are compliant with the latest PD and CC requirements defined in the USB specifications. The SiI7012 comes in a small CSP package suitable for smartphones, whereas the SiI7013’s QFN package is ideal for notebooks and accessories. The SiI7014 IC supports the auxiliary channel (AUX) and Hot Plug Detect (HPD) signal required to implement DisplayPort over USB Type-C. In addition, both the SiI7013 and SiI7014 support multiple Type-C ports that are required for notebooks.

Lattice Semiconductor Corporation Releases superMHL Solutions for USB Type-C to Deliver 4K 60fps Video with Concurrent USB 3.1 Data

Lattice Semiconductor Corporation announced the superMHL products for USB Type-C to deliver 4K 60fps RGB/4:4:4 video with concurrent USB 3.1 Gen 1 or Gen 2 data. The SiI8630 and SiI9396 are a low-power superMHL transmitter and receiver pair that can deliver and receive 4K 60fps over a single lane, enabling a PC experience with USB Type-C devices. The SiI8630 transmitter is able to seamlessly interface with HDMI 2.0 transmitters already integrated into the Application Processors used in the latest phones, tablets and notebooks. Since this part has an MHL switch, it enables a direct interface with a USB 2.0-enabled Type-C connector without the need for additional high-speed switches. The SiI8630, combined with the Si7033, offers a complete solution to deliver 4K 60 video with concurrent USB 3.1 Gen 1 data. The SiI9396 receiver is ideal for MHL adapters and docks. When paired with the SiI7023 or SiI7033, MHL accessories can be designed to connect USB Type-C mobile and PC products to HDMI displays and USB devices such as keyboards, mice and external storage. The SiI9396 receiver can also be used in monitors, projectors and TVs to connect to MHL and superMHL sources, including mobile and PC devices with the USB Type-C connector. USB Type-C products using these solutions will be able to connect to more than 750 million legacy MHL and future superMHL TVs, monitors, AVRs, Blu-ray Disc players, projectors, set-top boxes and automotive products. The SiI8630 and SiI9396 devices support: UHD 4K 60fps 4:4:4 over a single lane; Improved Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) features; Concurrent USB 3.1 (Gen 1 or Gen 2) data; Seamless integration with USB Type-C products; Latest superMHL features (BT.2020, High Dynamic Range, Object Audio, HDCP 2.2); Legacy connectivity to MHL1, 2, and 3 enabled products.
