Kyocera Corporation and Microsoft Corp. Expand Technology Sharing Agreement

On July 3, 2015, Kyocera and Microsoft Corp. announced that they have signed an agreement expanding on a prior patent licensing arrangement. The new agreement enables the companies to use a broader range of each other's technologies in their respective products through a patent cross license. In addition to strengthening the partnership between the two companies, it also resolves a patent infringement lawsuit brought earlier in 2015 in U.S. District Court. The remaining details of the agreement are confidential.

Kyocera Corporatio Unveils New URBANO V02 Smartphone for Japanese Market

Kyocera Corporation has unveiled the URBANO V02 for the Japanese market, a new smartphone featuring an 8.2mm profile. In addition to resistance against shock, water and dust, URBANO V02 features vibration resistance as well as temperature durability (high /low temperatures) and is certified to the US Military Standard (MIL-STD-810G), thus supporting use in various environments. Furthermore, it is equipped with applications which enable easy operation for users switching to smartphones for the first time. The handset also features Kyocera's proprietary Smart Sonic Receiver tuned for KDDI's 'au VoLTE' next-generation voice calling service, which clearly transmits sound even in noisy environments. The product is available in three colors: Mocha Black, Deep Green and Twinkle Pink. The product ensures durability including resistance against accidental drops and water, allows easy operation for first-time smartphone users and features a slim, durable and stylish metal body. In addition to resistance against shock, water and dust featured in the previous model, URBANO V02 offers vibration resistance and temperature durability (high /low temperatures), thus enabling safe use in vibrating environments such as on bicycles and motorbikes as well as varying temperatures during trips to other regions. The display utilizes scratch-resistant, high-strength Dragontrail X glass and realizes additional protection by applying a structure in which the display is slightly recessed, thus enhancing durability against accidental drops. It also allows easy operation for first-time smartphone users such as: Smart Sonic Receiver, Easy-to-use home screen app and App for displaying a key design similar to feature phones. The handset is equipped with Kyocera's proprietary technology in which the whole display vibrates to transmit sound from the other party using both sound waves and vibrations. This enables users to hear the smartphone clearly no matter where their ear is placed on the screen. Furthermore, by pressing the whole screen against the ear to create a cover, it is easier to hear in crowded and noisy environments. The Entry Home app enables intuitive operation for first-time smartphone users with its simple home screen. The handset is equipped with an app which displays a key design similar to conventional feature phones, thus allowing users to input characters based on a familiar key arrangement.

Kyocera Corporation Unveils Eight-Inch Qua Tab 01 Android Tablet for Japanese Market

Kyocera Corporation has announced the launch of the eight-inch Qua tab 01 android tablet for the Japanese market. The Qua tab is a new waterproof and dust-resistant tablet that can be used both indoors and outdoors; and because the touchscreen allows for operation even with wet hands, it can be used in areas with water such as kitchens. The tablet corresponds to 'au Sharing', which supports users who also possess smartphones, by allowing remote operation of their smartphone screens through their tablets. In addition, 'au Basic Home' allows customization of the home screen for easier usage based on the user's preference, thus offering user-friendliness for first-time tablet users. The product is available in three colors: white, pink and navy. The product corresponds to 'au Sharing' for smartphone users, supports 'au Basic Home', which allows customization of the home screen based on the user's preferences and offers a fully-equipped performance. The Qua tab allows remote operation of the user's smartphone screen via KDDI's 4G network even when the devices are located in different places. Frequently used applications can be located on the home screen and customized according to the user's preferences. This enables an intuitive operation for users who are familiar with tablets as well as first-time tablet users. The tablet is equipped with the latest Android 5.1 OS and an octa-core CPU, along with high-speed 4G LTE and WiMAX2+ data connections. Moreover, comfortable operation is realized through features such as a portable size and weight, beautiful 8-inch high-definition WUXGA display, and high-capacity memory. The tablet also supports expandable memory.

Kyocera Corp. to Construct a New Manufacturing Plant in China

Kyocera Corp. announced that it will construct a new manufacturing plant in China, aimed at further strengthening the company’s industrial cutting tool business in the country. KPTG was established in January 2015 as a joint venture between Kyocera and a tungsten refining company in China, Ganzhou Grand Sea W&Mo Group Co. Ltd. (President: Zeng Qingnin, herein “Ganzhou Grand Sea”), in order to meet the growing demand for industrial cutting tools in the automotive industry in China — where more automobiles are manufactured than any other country in the world. KPTG plans to begin operations at the new plant in January 2016 to produce carbide inserts. The plant will become Kyocera’s fourth manufacturing base for industrial cutting tools in China, in addition to its plants in Dongguan, Zhuhai and Shanghai.

Kyocera Corporation Announces Executive Appointments; Announces Dividend for the Year Ended March 31, 2015

Kyocera Corporation at its AGM held on June 24, 2015, approved the appointment of Mr. Hiroto Mizobata as Directors. Messrs. Takashi Kuki, Hideo Tanimoto, Takashi Okunosono and Masayuki Saito were newly elected as Executive Officers as of April 1, 2015. The company announced cash dividend of JPY 60.00 per share for the year ended March 31, 2015.
