Ford Motor Co. Updates Earnings Guidance for the Full Year of 2014

Ford Motor Co. updated earnings guidance for the full year of 2014. The company began reporting the results of Venezuelan operations using the cost method of accounting. This change, which the company made effective December 31, 2014, will result in a one-time pre-tax special item charge of $800 million in the fourth quarter of 2014. The company continue to expect full year 2014 total pre-tax profit, excluding special items, to be about $6 billion. 2014 pre-tax profit guidance is not affected by the special item charge. Net of deferred tax benefits, the charge will reduce net income attributable to Ford by about $700 million in the fourth quarter of 2014.

Ford Motor Company is planning to launch an updated version of its Ecosport compact SUV in the UK during this summer. the vehicle will now be available with a spare wheel at no extra cost. Industry sources have reported that Ford will aim to improve the interior quality of the vehicle, as well as its ride.
Ford Opens Research and Innovation Center Palo Alto

Ford opened the Research and Innovation Center Palo Alto, growing its global research team and accelerating the company’s innovation in connectivity, mobility, autonomous vehicles, customer experience and big data. The all-new Research and Innovation Center Palo Alto joins Ford’s global network of research and innovation centers, including its location in Dearborn, Michigan, which focuses on advanced electronics, human-machine interface, materials science, big data and analytics; and Aachen, Germany, which focuses on next-generation powertrain research, driver-assist technologies and active safety systems. With the new facility, Ford expects to have one of the large automotive manufacturer research centers in Silicon Valley by the end of the year, with 125 researchers, engineers and scientists. Located in Stanford Research Park, the facility also expands Ford’s physical footprint – with further expansion planned in the near future. Ford opened its first Silicon Valley office in 2012. Leading the new research center is Dragos Maciuca, an engineer who joins Ford from Apple with a background in consumer electronics, semiconductor manufacturing, aerospace and automotive. As senior technical leader for innovation, Maciuca brings extensive Silicon Valley experience advising startups, developing and commercializing products, collaborating with universities and leading cross-functional teams. Maciuca holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from University of California, Berkeley and an MBA from its Haas School of Business.
Ford Motor Company and AccuWeather to Integrate MinuteCast into Sync AppLink-enabled Vehicles

Ford Motor Company and AccuWeather partnered to integrate AccuWeather's MinuteCast weather app, featuring hyper-localized weather forecasting, into the Ford SYNC AppLink-enabled vehicles. AccuWeather is introducing its MinuteCast to Ford SYNC AppLink customers. The technology uses an exact street address or GPS location to provide minute-by-minute weather forecasting, information about precipitation type, intensity and duration to the driver. By selecting MinuteCast on the vehicle display menu, the driver will see a static image of the weather condition he or she will soon face, and the time the precipitation is expected to happen on the route. An audio warning will also be delivered. The service is available for a growing list of countries worldwide including the US, Canada, UK, Ireland and Japan.
