Ciena Corporation Appoints Joe Marsella as Chief Technology Officer for Europe, Middle East and Africa

Ciena has appointed Joe Marsella as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), where he will lead a talented group of engineers and developers in driving Ciena's expansion in the region. By providing strategic counsel to Ciena customers and partners, Joe will also provide strategic counsel to Ciena customers and partners to help them transform their networks through key technologies such as software defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV) to enable agility, innovation, and differentiation in service offerings while lowering overall network costs. Prior to this new role, Joe served in several capacities within Ciena; most recently as the Senior Director Product Line Management, responsible for the software strategy of Ciena's Agility software portfolio, now part of Ciena Blue Planet.

TCR Telecom Selects Ciena to Support Brazil’s Porto Maravilha Telecomunications Project

TCR Telecom in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil has deployed a new municipal network with packet networking platforms from Ciena. The network supports the revitalization of Rio’s port region, which seeks to re-integrate the port region into the city of Rio de Janeiro by revitalizing more than 1,200 acres in the downtown neighborhoods of Gamboa, Santo Cristo and Saúde, by providing high-speed connectivity that increases the attractiveness of commercial space, supports residential growth and the opening of new tourist attractions. It provides greater access to a high-capacity, low-latency and resilient network that is capable of delivering carrier-grade services, such as premium Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) services, to businesses and data centers in 'Porto Maravilha'.

On August 8, 2015, Philippe Morin, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Field Operations, notified Ciena Corporation of his decision to resign as an officer and employee of Ciena and its subsidiaries, effective as of October 31, 2015. In connection with Ciena's broader organizational design planning, Ciena and Mr. Morin have agreed to work together to provide for an orderly transition of his role for Ciena customers and the global field organization.
Ciena Appoints Henry Kim as President and General Manager of Its Korea Operations

Ciena has announced the appointment of Henry Kim as president and general manager of its Korea operations. Kim will be in charge of Ciena s overall sales strategy and operations in South Korea. Kim will play a key role in reaching out to big service providers, enterprises and education institutions, by means of Ciena s networking and software technologies in core infrastructure, mobile backhaul and Carrier Ethernet. Earlier, Kim served Digital Equipment in Massachusetts and NEC Corporation in Silicon Valley, as an engineer in the research and development team for 16 years.
