Rate Profile Information for USRINDXQ
USRINDXQ Index is a binomial index, which indicates whether or not the U.S. economy is in recession during a given quarter. An index value equal to one indicates a recession, and a value of zero indicates a quarter of expansion, according to assessments by the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). The index assumes that the quarter in which the peak occurs is part of the expansion and that the quarter in which the trough occurs is within the recession. A companion index, USRINDEX Index, is a monthly version of this index. Please note that the quarterly assessments of recession do not necessarily line up with the monthly definitions, due to the timing of the peak or trough within a particular quarter. Please refer to the NBER website for an in-depth discussion of what constitutes a recession and what determines the peaks and troughs of business cycles. http://www.nber.org/cgi-bin/printit?uri=/cycles.html#announcements
