** Rates are calculated as a percentage of the total Economically Active Population (EAP). ** Survey does not include the population of the new provinces (departamentos) considered in the Constitution of 1991, in which approximatley 4% of the total population of the country has its residence. Unemployed people - The ones that in the week of reference fell into one of the following categories: - Open umeployment: Without a job in the week of reference, looking for job in the last month and are available to be hired any moment. - Hidden unemployment: Without a job in the week of reference, not looking for job in the last month, but did in the las 12 months and have a 'valid reason' for disappointment* and are available to be hired any moment. * DANE regards the following reasons as valid: no jobs available in the city, waiting to be called, don't know how to look for a job, tired of looking for job, not suitable jobs regarding the abilities of the person, waiting for 'high season', lacks necessary experience, don't have resources to run a business or the employers consider him/her too young or too old.
